I guess it's abut time I showed you what I have been up to. I have been trying to get this straight in my head and use the best parts from both of these broken kits. So I have a NO WAY box, a maybe box, a yes box and a haven't looked this stuff over yet box.

So far I have decided to use the Body, interior tub and glass from the AMT kit. I will have to scratch some floorboards for it but no biggie there. The Revell kit is giving me the frame, front and rear suspension and the engine. The wheels are from the AMT kit. As I sort this out I have been bagging the parts up so I know what's what.

So that's where I am at. Now to do some white glue mockups and try to find a set of tires for it. Both kits were missing the tires. Also I have removed all the chrome I have come across so far using Bleach. Chrome was one thing they couldn't afford for sure. I will be back with some mockup shots soon.

The steering shaft that I have, didn't go with this frame. So I made it fit and will be using the mount that was on the frame to hold a manual fuel pressure booster tank (snikker ;))

And some more on the tail section, Cardboard with Bondo

Clay how do you like working with the cardboard? I have only made little things with it, never even thought of doing a body.

Not used cardboard on a car model before.
On the dio buildings I wanted the absorbancy of the card board, but for this, I was concerned how cardboard would hold up. As an afterthought, I sized (soaked in) the inside with super glue. The primer on the outside seemed to do ok without any warpage, and the Bondo seemed to take ok. I know Brizio uses Bondo, but not if he sizes the cardstock. Super glue is pretty costly (even the cheap kind I use) to coat everything.

BTW, I used Elmer's carpenter glue to attach the panels to each other.

Well here is where I'm at with the Challenger I.

This is a picture I'm useing for color ref. on the chassis and drivetrain

Engines put together and painted as close to the color from what paint I had ( you put them in a bright light and they are blue not green )

Tranny's together and on the mounting plates

Rear end are painted, the center's look white in the photo so I make semi-gloss white

And got the body in primer and fittin real good

That's a figure of Mickey Thompson that comes prepainted with the kit.

Got a little trouble figurein out what color to use for the blower's and thought sombody might give me some suggestions. Here is a close up

Will update when I get more done. John

Great work John.

As for the blower colour, I think Alclad dull aluminium would be perfect.

I built this several years ago. Here is a link to my build gallery. There are several good reference photos scattered throughout the build maybe it will help you.

http://s1155.photobucket.com/user/Zbuckster/library/bModel%20Car%20Build%20Up%20Gallery/Racing/Salt%20Flats/Challenger1960?sort=2&page=1

I used Orr-Lac Dull Aluminum for the blowers. works great. Hope this helps.

Well I fiddled around with it until I got as much figured out in my head as I could so started putting things together for a mock up. here is the Revell chassis with the 4 banger in place.

So would the big AMT body fit onto it? That what I needed to know.

There are only two issues that I need to over come, well one maybe. The rear axle centerline is not lined up with the center of the wheel well.

I think that can be over come with the right size tire and a little filing on the interior tub. The other issue is the interior tub hitting the transmission bellhousing. That I can solve with some surgery. I will graft a tranny tunnel into the interior tub.

So that's where I am at. I will get the tranny tunnel thing fixed first and then see about moving that axle forward just a little. Thanks for looking in all comments and questions are welcome.

Nice start Buck.

Why not just lengthen the chassis>

Al the real problem is the body needs to go rearward maybe .060" or a tad more. This is one I am not measuring just eyeballing. I will get it hooked up. I think when the body gors back it will be better.

You are welcome John.

Original, as usual, Clay. What is that? About 400cu.in and 60hp?

Just spent a whole day on the dyno. I know how exhilarating and yet disappointing 20hp at 4,00rpm can be. We were working with only 1 liter, however. BMC A, motor, so almost as old.

Made Igor's day today !
I didn't care for the flatness of the roof, so I asked Igor if he wanted to go grave robbing. DUH ! Would a cow lick Lot's wife ? ???
We're hacking the sides off of the ill fated Frankenstein's roof. I guess we'll see how this turns out !
