I'm impressed Al.

I applied some pearl white paint to mine just before noon today. When I got home from a shine and show tonight it has a cream tint to it. Rats.

Thanks guys.

Don, I think the Pearl paint looks good even if it has come out cream. Mettalic blue would be a good contrast colour for eithe white or blue methinks.

Oooooo, does pearl look good with the smooth lines!!!! The Kart looks smart. The tanker's brake lines, and "interior are likewise excellent. They're both looking more realistic nearing completion!

The wheels are now permanently attached.

Now I need to decide...... whitewalls or blackwalls???

What do you guys think?

If you're going for classy stick with the whitewalls, otherwise go black.

I was thinking white and blue, Al. Now I'm not sure.

For some reason, those whitewalls look too white to me.

Well, it's hit the proverbial fan. I am not proficient with an air brush. This is the first time that I tried nail polish. I think I striped the tape too soon. Always something...never good.

Leaving for a double SCCA National race at Road America tomorrow and will not return until Sunday night.

NICE kolors on the kart!!!! Never tried nail polish so can't say much beyond that it dries pretty fast.
On the choice between white walls or not, I'd go black since the red wheels attrack the eye and I dunno if I ever saw a Lakester foto with white walls.

Sorry for dropping off the end of the earth, had a few things come up. Great job with all the builds. Just a few more days left for buttoning things up. Then a whole month off to gear up for the next one.001

I've tried fixing the straight lines with some success. The curved ones are going to be much harder. I think part of the problem is that the flakes are wider than the lines and come off in big chunks.

PostSubject: Re: Community Build #1 - Bonneville !!    Wed 31 Jul 2013, 5:41 pm

Well here it is the last day of the of the Community Build and I am beginning to have my doubts about me. Since my last update I have been busy with Summer time outside projects and my building has really slipped. So I will say I am sorry for not finishing on time, but will finish just a day or two late. better late than Never.

I couldn't duplicate the decals on the side on the car so decided to do something kinda like it and put a little Bomber Art on also. it is time period correct. So here is what that looks like.

Got the interior finished. Found so gauge decals that worked so I foiled the dash insert and added them. The "Plaque" is from the 1953 Hudson Hornet decal sheet. I used it to look like the plaque in the real car. It had the date and speed that the car ran at Bonneville. In scale it would have been to small to read anyway. The shifter is a straight pin that is bent to look like the shift stick.

On the engine bay side. I scratched up a  little slave cylinder for a clutch and added the line from the clutch master cylinder down to it. Also added the line from the Brake distribution block to the brake master cylinder. I used the Friction lever shocks from the Model A and the steering linkage from the Model A. That thing sticking up in the middle is the steering box. I need to cut it to fit from the frame to the firewall.

So I need to hook up the fuel lines, brake and clutch lines, Add headlights and a taillight and the exhaust system. That will be a straight pipe so no biggie there. Here is what it looks like now.

Last is the windshield, I found two little decals that worked out great. A Bonneville participate decal and a SCTA decal.

I am going to do all I can do to get it finished today. if I don't make it, it will be done tomorrow and posted. Thanks for looking in and again I am sorry for dragging my feet.

No apologies needed Buck. It's all just for fun.

I have to say it's looking great. Has just the right period look and the details are superb.

Yes, as we age Summers seem shorter and Winters are longer. Have good days outdoors when you can and spend time with those you like and love.
Model looks about done anyway. Pretty cool actually. Thanx for the work and photos!

Hi gang, well I didn't get mine done either got super busy with my computer repair side jobs ( more model money ) so it's a catch 22. Here is what I have done, this is the chassis as of now

Got the wheels and tires done

and most of the decals on, need to finish the decals and then clear coat.

when I find time from working I'll get this done. seems like when I plan on having some time to play something comes around and says   Will update when I get more done.

Well, I sorta finished mine. Repaired the paint stripes as best that I could. I think part of the problem was that the metal flakes were wider than the stripes, and would pull off with the tape. Repaired some spots three times with varying results. Added home made decals. The class markings took forever to make and what I had planed for the canopy didn't work out, so I just have a temp in place. Added some air intakes and an exhaust pipe too.
