Well here she is! All buttoned up for your viewing pleasure. Fun (re)build and the engine gave my scratchbuilding skills a work out, but all and all I had a blast building this car. 1987 Monte Carlo SS AeroCoupe DupliColor Paint - MetalSpeck Copper/Orange 65% Scratchbuild engine, headers, wired.

Well after sitting in storage for a bit and out on display the resin hood started to crack and buckle. When I "pried" the hood off (yes it somehow stuck to the car) it broke into 3 pieces. The cowl section being the thickest it was the best part that could be salvaged. So grinding, sanding, and grinding some more I got it to fit the stock styrene hood that I cut a hole in. I super glued it down to the styrene hood and used some resin dust and super glue to make a mild filler to fill the voids. Needs a li'l more work, but its ready for paint for the most part.

Nice Monte Carlo, Jason. That's some real metalflake job. Nice finish.

Shame about the hood. One of my favorite builds you've done.

Thanx Mike! Buck, no biggie on the hood, as you see I got it sorted. Now the trick is going to be finding this paint again to redo this paint job just on the hood. Let the hunt begin! LoL

Paint is really cool and engine details are really nice. I didn't know resin can "warp" and get brittle over time. Is that common with older resin bodies?? They've been around a good long time, there must be reports. I am truly surprised. Great work anyway, the Aero Coupes were cool!

Harron, the hood on this car was cheap, thin, and of poor quality to begin with. The Cowl Section was the thickest part of the whole thing. I have several resin pieces around here that are fine and I've had them for several years. My Dodge "Power Wagon R/T10" is still in good nick and its the oldest of the crew at 9 years old. My resin 1979 Li'l Red Express Conversion Hood has warped as well as it is thin like this hood (same supplier and can't remember who right off hand) Just a shame too because its a hit or miss game when it comes to resin parts unless you make your own.

Jason, you could always satin black the hood and it would look just fine.

I'd have sworn you'd already posted this as a finished build but obviously not.

Nice one Jason good to see it finished.

I posted it April 7th, 2013 the first time. It got overlooked somehow as there was no replies to it. This is just an update on what it looks like now and what happened in the last couple of years being in storage and out on display. All's well Al. ;)

Jason:  Nice job on the original and great save on the hood.  My only nit picking is that I would really like to see this in classic black.  It would be absolutely sinister.  I'm really impressed with what you have done though.

Thanx Brizio and John.

John J I am planning on getting the "notchback" version of this kit. It will be in sinister black and possibly the same but different treatment. Gotta have a dynamic duo. LoL

Fine work all round, Jason. Nice save on the bonnet too.
