PostSubject: 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo AeroCoupe SS - The Copper Mistress   Sun 07 Apr 2013, 4:46 am

I got this Monte Carlo in a box of parts from a yard sale. There were several other cars and trucks in there too. This one was missing quite a bit, the windows were tinted with a Sharpie or something like that, and the weird Tu-Tone paint job were what I had to start with. I decided this car could be resurrected with the right parts and such. I ordered a hood for it in 2005 from A/FX Resin and I got it 2.5 yrs and several address changes later. Why it took so long to get it is beyond me. I'll never deal with them again. Anyways, back to the model.

This is what I started with.

I dug around in the parts box and found some tires I thought were fitting for the car. Added the Cowl Hood after some cleaning up done to it and mocked it up to see what we had. Much better already if you ask me.

Up Next .......... Paint Work!! 8-)

OK, after sitting in a Purple Bath and it not working I tried Oven Cleaner. That worked! Almost too well!! But after two coats of primer with light polishing in between we moved onto the Colour Coats. I chose DupliColor MetalSpeck Copper/Orange. I laid it down over White Primer to make it PoP. And here we go!

And some mock up shots with the pan.

Gotta love how the colour changes to it's surroundings.

Before painting everything in body colour I worked on opening the grill up, which has turned out to be a specialty of mine. LoL Here you can see the nose cone in colour with revised headlights and turnsignals to represent a 1987 model year (clear turn signals is the only difference).

Next up the beginnings of the engine... Enjoy! 8-)

Thanx to all who have replied and been following this buildup!

Ok, here is what I started with when it came to the engine. Well needless to say the only thing that was used was the Oil Pan and Transmission The engine block was assembled and used as a template to make a new engine. I went for a 454 big block look and used the heads and other various parts from the Pro Street 67 Chevelle. Sorry I didn't take any pictures of the block in styrene sheet. :(

Once wired and assembled I attached the engine to the frame. I did wire the engine to bring it to life a li'l bit.

I then turned my attention to the interior. I went with a semi gloss black to give it a clean look. Added extra gauges because of all that horsepower under the hood. Also flocked the flooring.

Next up Body Mock Up and the Finishing Details! Enjoy!

Uh! I went back and looked at my last post and realized that Photobucket decided to act up. Lord what a mess.

Here's the right photos for the engine mock up.

I scratch build the headers out of Solder and the collection tubes is made from HeatShrink Tubing.

And then we move on to Mock up shots, glass installed, and the engine mounting pics (engine mounted to the frame pics already posted in previous update). LoL

And then from here we move to the NMA's! See ya there! 8-)
