The 'Monty' bust arrived this morning so bench tidied, and brushes cleaned.
The figure is a Life Miniatures 1/9th scale sculpt and of supreme quality.

Cool looking project, Gary.  Hope it raises the mojo for you.

Neat looking tool with the wood handle.  I assume it's to hold the subject while painting?

Cheers Mike.
Yes it is a vice with multi positions with steel pegs. A great tool and the handle screws off so the head can be put in a vice.

Nice one Gary.

Be sure to post step by step, as I still have Hanz the German Panzerjager to do!

Was hoping to paint the parts separately to save work around the collar and base of the beret. Upon further study I noticed the head sits at a slight angle and to ensure that I get the eyes in the right position I have had to attach it. As this will dry overnight I thought I might as well put on the base stem as well. Will wash in soapy water to clean off the mold release residue (although this is very clean) then get some primer on tomorrow. Usual razor saw, file and emery boards used to remove the resin excess and Loctite 60 sec glue to fix the parts.

That's quite detailed. Do I spy a huge wad of cash sitting in the paint rack? Not your usual model supply.

Well spotted Dave, sadly that is waiting to be passed on to the guys who have just clipped all the hedges.

I would never leave my beer money in open view Al, your right my Mrs would find an alternative use for it lol.

Your not wrong Shay, pub prices are shockingly high, Ill be having a couple at the bench this weekend

Primed and dried overnight so started on the eyes. A bit rough but Im letting what Ive done dry to avoid unwanted blending of the colours.

Nice work, Gary.

Question: Do you start with the smallest inner parts like the iris, followed by the whites, then the lids, etc. ? Simply, is there a path that's always follwed?

Hi Mike, I paint the white (mix of light flesh and white) in first then a VERY thin red line round the inside.
I draw a black (black blue) circle for the whole iris/pupil, then put the colour in. Then finish with a back pupil dot and white highlight if required.

Then keep going back until Ive cocked it up royally and keep doing it over until its passable lol.

Im going to redo his right eye, I think the left is OK when its tidied up.
Thanks for looking in, please keep following along.

This is great stuff Gary. I agree, his right eye looks a little larger but then most people have one eye a tad larger than the other.

I'd be happy coming anywhere near that.

The pupil isn't centred Al and I need to round it more so be easier just to redo it I think.

Apparently he wore a flying jacket a lot over his uniform at the time of the D Day landings Shay.
The model is based on this I believe.

Don't know much about the British Army to be fair Gary, just wondering how you'll paint a sort of suede coat?

With suede paint of course just like you use tartan paint to paint a Scottish kilt!!!

The texture is pretty much there for the leather and sheepskin so just down to colour choice Shay.
LOL Al, wish they did an eye and face paint

Only figures I ever paint are the 1/25th or 1/24rth scale ones and its very tricky but they make great additions to a build or diorama.
