Hmmm.... seems like nobody is in a hurry to jump in on this one, so I'll get a jump start with this one:

this is what i plan on doing
been quite while since i did an open wheel race car, F1 is a sport that really does not appeal but i can appreciate the engineering involved
might be a week or so before i make any significant progress, kinda busy and occupied with something else at the mo

Decisions, decisions. I'll be building one of the older kits in the stash. The decals are in questionable condition, but hey, it won't be the first time.

Could be a Rallycross car Paul.

Yes, WRC and all Rally cars need to be taxed and tested for the public road sections, but this could be a racing car in my opinion.

What ya think?

i disagree

rally needs to street legal.....even be registered and insured etc.........they even race on closed sections of public road at times

Rallycross (as opposed to Rally) cars aren't street legal, they don't use the public road, and there's no reason a Cossie couldn't be run in Rallycross events Paul. So there! lol

No worries Paul, and thanks for the education. So, I will go with this racing car from the Japan Super GT series.

My change of subject bodes well. I already have all the paints I need! That usually is never the case. This kit represents the first entry by Mugen in the Super GT class here in Japan. 1997 was not kind to them. The best finish they could manage was outside of the top ten.

It certainly looks 'Challenging'. They look as if they may cover the whole car!!

Count me in on this one too.  I checked my Tamiya 1/20th Ferrari 312T3 and the decals were too yellowed - hope the white parts here are OK. Don't know why they show deep blue decals on the boxart when black ones are provided.

I built this one a few years ago. I hope you have better luck than I with the upper/lower body fit. Mine wasn't too good.

So far - so good.  Getting work done on the engine/trans right now.

Have to admit Tamiya did a very nice job on the engine of this kit.  Painted aluminum to start, then dry brushed the gold parts with antique gold rub-n-buff.

Trans is just a mockup for now.

The instructions say to paint the rotors matt earth.  From pics I've seen I wasn't too sure about it, so I  used a color I saw when I googled Dunlop Carbon Fibre Brakes.  Please speak up if they look wrong since I'm Old-School and brake rotors were always shiny to me.

Mike; The before and after picture of the engine is impressive. Nice work.

Speaking of powerplants, I have just finished up the NSX engine. When the kit is finished, the engine will be well out of sight.

Both engines are looking great.

You are OK with the brakes Mike, the BT46 did indeed use CF rotors.

As mentioned elsewhere, my building MoJo is at an all time low. I have all the parts for the Porsche Carrera GTS, prepped and ready for paint and the body part assembled and primered ready for paint but I just cannot work up the enthusiasm to go any further with it.

Seeing Mikes lovely Brabham BT46 engine plus Lewis Hamilton's dominant British GP win at Silverstone yesterday, has fired me up to put the Porsche back in the box for another day and break out this one instead. Let's hope I can finish it!!

I understand completely Al. Will it be Patrese or Piquet?

Being a 1.5 litre straight four, at least I don't have to assemble Tamiya's tricky ubiquitous DFV manifolds!!!

A little update is due here.

First off, after painting the red bodywork, I notice a little area in need of work.  Tamiya molded the tank with the taper beginning a bit early - so the taps don't mate up.  Luckily the aluminum isn't laid down yet.

Trans and axles attached, as are the exhausts.

Made boot ends out of styrene tubing sliced very thin.

Portion of the front spoiler together.

Thanks for looking,
Mike
