PostSubject: My new toy............   Sun 21 May 2017, 12:41 am

............ just bought it to-day. 1935 Hilman Minx. (yes Mitch, it's a HILLMAN!!!! LOL)

82 years old and it starts on the button.

Haggled with the guy and got £450 off the price plus I got him to throw in free delivery. (it's 120 miles away in Scarborough)

Being delivered in the first half of next week. More photos then.

She is no Pebble Beach Concourse car but has good paint, runs well and is rust free. Now to get tinkering!!! Yippeee!!

Carpets are original but shot to pieces and the door cards need some serious work or replacement.

Nice! What are your plans, Al? Carpets and door trims aside. And what is the wooden 'stick' clipped to the firewall in the under bonnet pic?

Chris.

Thanks Chris.

Yes, carpets and door cards plus an attempt to clean the headliner. The front seat squabs have been recovered at some time so are OK but I think the rest of the seating will benefit from a 'clean and feed'.

Come winter, I will pull out the engine, take off the head and check the bores etc. Then give it and the ancillaries a fresh coat of paint. Not keen on the blue and orange HT lead so I will replace those too.

The wooden stick!! I have seen a number of cars with these and don't know what they are for. I asked the dealer and he too had seen them but has never been able to find out what they are for!!!

Interesting Al, did you trade the kit car in? What's it like to drive? the traffic past your house is pretty fast.

Nope, still got the Phoenix Shay, which I hope to have on the road in a couple of months.

I've seen a few old imports at car shows and am always a bit shocked that European cars were smaller than U.S. ones even back then. I'm sure when you're done it'll purr like a cat!
