An so on to this one.

Sprue shots for those that like them:

This kit is notorious for two things:

First it is apparently nigh on impossible to get the engine stays through the exhausts. It even mentions this in the instructions and says even if the builder manages it, they can barely be seen on the finished model!!!!

Well I can vouch for the difficulty. I started one of these several years ago and stalled on it due to this very problem. I struggled for between 6-8 hours, spread over several sessions and failed to do it.
In the struggle, I made a right bog of the engine and gave up in the end.

So now I have a new kit and WILL attempt it again but if it still proves problematical, I will abandon that step before making another pigs ear of the engine and trannie.

The second problem. Apparently it's supposed to be impossible to be able to have the engine cover on and still take it off to view the engine. i.e. it's either on or off. Well we'll just have to wait and see on that one.

Well, at least it's nice of them to give you advance warning of the problem. Good luck with it, Al.

Yikes and holy cow. I'm sure you'll be able to figure something out, though.

Even though I have left out the stabilizers, progress on the engine and transaxle is tricky, tedious and slow. So to relieve the monotony of glue a bit and wait over night etc, I set too on painting the body work.

And yes, it is the correct Mclaren Can Am orange by Zero Paints. Gloss coats to follow.

Nice, and that's probably as shiney as they ever were back in the day.

Looks great, Al. The color is fantastic, as is the finish.

A very finicky kit, from reviews I've seen as well. The larger (1/20th MPC) M8-D (?) that MPC released in maybe the '80s was cheaper and more available at least. Thanx for the mention of the "hard to match" McLaren orange paint. Best 2 u!

I gave the panels a second coat of clear and would agree with you now Shay, so that's the way it is staying.
