PostSubject: Tiger I Mid Production   Tue 04 Apr 2017, 2:42 pm

I'm between surgeries at the moment and decided to start on a Tiger I.

CONSTRUCTION PHOTOS:

The kit is typical Tamiya quality, good detail, good fit, etc.  Also typical of Tamiya is that if you want Zimmerit it has to be added even though it is shown in the box art..  I'm not too happy with Tamiya about this.  I feel that the Zimmerit should be included or not shown.

The tracks are individual pieces.  They went together well, but it was a tedious job.  Hope the final result is worth the effort.

I can start the fun part today. Hopefully I can get this finished by this weekend because I go into the hospital on Monday for a knee replacement and will be unable to do any modeling until I can climb the stairs to my basement hobby room.

Nice project, John. Good luck with the surgery. Keep a couple of small kits stashed in the kitchen for post surgery boredom.

I added aftermarket zimmerit Gary.  Added another $12.50 US to the cost, but I think it's worth it.

I agree John, it is very authentic. I also agree with you that the box art is misleading. I don't think it would be such a big deal for them to mold the pattern in during manufacture, or include the zimmerit in the box as an option. Hope all is going well with you and Mrs J and good luck with the op.

Got the shadow coat on last night.  As you can see the zimmerit is much more defined.  I do believe it is worth the extra cost for the appearance you get.

I think I will get the color coat on tonight and see how it goes from there.

Looks brilliant John, the zimmerit adds another dimension and point of interest. Will really pop when painted and given a wash?

Beautiful work and I echo the others on the zimmerit effect.
