PostSubject: HMCS Snowberry Flower-Class Corvette (1:144 scale)   Mon 27 Mar 2017, 7:27 pm

So this is believe or not, my first build that wasn't a car or truck in quite some time, in fact I've never finished another type of kit. However this one caught my eye and I decided to give another genre of modeling a try.

HMCS Snowberry (K166), this particular ship has a lot of history in Eastern Canada, where I am from and live. I live about 40 minutes from Halifax, Nova Scotia, a port used extensively during WW2 for supply convoys and navy alike. Loaned to Canada from the Royal Navy, this Corvette no doubt sailed into Halifax a time or two, and her sister ship, HMCS Sackville is the last surviving Flower-Class, and still sits in Halifax harbour, its been restored and you can basically walk freely through most of the ship.

Anyhow, to the building: So far I have the hull glued, and the decking I have just glued and taped for drying.

It came with a small plastic stand, and that has been assembled too. I have another idea for a stand but that will come later.

More to come soon! Thanks for lookin

Very interesting! Small world I guess.

So my Olds build is on hold again due to a painting error... which means I got some progress made on the Corvette...

Depth charges are glued, I will put these on the deck later after everything is painted.

Intricate work, certainly not use to this but it is fun and interesting. Got the Lewis guns together and ready for paint, as well as one of the AA guns.

Most of the rear deck work is done, and ready for paint, I will come in later and paint the details once the white is sprayed. Just putting railings on now.

More to come soon!

Great start! The finicky, tiny weaponry and details of ship models always makes my eyes cross but the effort pays off when you have the bits in place. The stand that came with the kit is pretty simple, they usually are, but it will make a great support for the hull while you're working and also serve as a reference for your own stand (I'm guessing you're planning to make one of your own).
