In my modeling, I worry not about any historical accuracy, nor, the laws of physics, for that matter.
Not a racecar buff at all, but I do remember Hall and Chapman putting their American 'hot rods' up against the Europeans.
Interesting following the comments on this build.
The engine is looking great !

Beautiful work! The engine is fantastic and the body work as well.

I do the same on some builds Clay. I have cut the top back of tires off to make them fit in a wheel well instead of making the wheel well bigger, you can't see it so no one's the wiser.

Race cars are my favorite things to build and while I don't get hung up on details like some people do. I do like to be as accurate as I can.
One thing I realize that a lot of race car modelers on other modeling sites fail to recognize is that a race car is a used car. If you model a race car after one reference picture then that's fine but race cars change race to race. Stickers come off and are replaced, sponsors change, race damage is repaired, body parts are replaced, etc...

So I don't fret over exactness to much but I do want it to look the part. Correct colors and such.

This particular kit has been a Grail Kit for me for many many years and I just want to try and do it justice.

I do appreciate you weighing in though. I know some won't comment if its not the genre they build.

I wasn't feeling that great this weekend so I didn't get much done around the house other than staining the new step treads. (we are removing the carpet and installing oak set treads and a runner)

So I got a lot done on little Chappie here.

The suspension is complete, the aftermarket seat belt/harness is built and installed, the wheels are on.
I broke one of the wing uprights and glued it but I broke it off again. So I drilled it and pinned it with a piece of wire and then used CA. It's actually stronger now than before and looks fine. The hardest part was drilling the little stick that is part of the upright were is mounts to the suspension.

I added another little detail that I have seen done before but never tried it myself. I wrapped some wire around a piece of round stock and then put some heat shrink tubing on it and shrank it. I think it looks okay. Its a little big but I am okay with that.

I got the PE screen installed on the rear body work and just need to cut out the molded-in screen on the rear flat exit panels and put PE screen in them. I also put the PE Dezus fasteners on.

Next will be the rest of the decals, final assembly and touch ups.

The little tank on the back firewall may have been a filler/overflow tank for water. Others here know more than I about them.

I forgot that this car had a torque converter instead of a clutch. I think that what the instructions call a "water tank" is probably the automatic transmission fluid reservoir.

Thanks Mike.

I worked on the rear exit panels last night. I just got one done, it took a couple of hours.

I cut out the molded in screen, then used a Dremel to create a lip on the back side for the screen and to reduce the thickness of the piece.

Great work Mitch. Didn't you do one of these before on eScale?

That Dirk, I did build one on eScale but it was the RevelloGram curbside Chaparral 2D coupe.

This kit gives you much more to work with.

Dig the screens and the fasteners detail you have added Mitch.

Thanks guys.

The rear panels are very thick, almost an eighth of an inch. I had to Dremel a lip on the back side for the screen.

I got the other panel finished up last night and installed, so I polished it all up and put on the decals and took some completion pictures.

Its in the racer NMA
