I thought this might be of use,so here goes. I work near a large scale printing mob. Signs, car wraps, etc. They do a chrome wrap, and were kind enough to give me a piece large enough to do the armrest bases in the Buick.
So, with offcuts to spare, I started to experiment.

It's much thicker than BMF, so it won't conform like BMF. It's thickness is it's advantage, in that you can cut it to 1 mm strips and still have it useable, and not break like BMF. Thin strips of the stuff are great for chrome mouldings were there is no moulding on the model to work with.
I used it on some spots in the Senator diecast build/tutorial.

Bottom line is: If you know a business that does car wraps and similar, ask nicely for some chrome offcuts. A little goes a long way, and I'm sure you'll find a use for it.

Cheers,

Chris

I used it on the Senator build. There was no moulding on the boot/trunk lid for the rear window to apply BMF to, so I used a thin strip to simulate the moulding.

Here's a small section. Peels off readily too. I didn't try it, but some heat will soften it to conform better. Perhaps save that technique for
diecasts!

This strip is under a millimeter wide, yet here, its under tension that would have BMF break.
It's not a BMF replacement, its real use is where you don't have a moulding to work with.
