PostSubject: WIP's abandoned   Fri 10 Feb 2017, 9:31 pm

Does anyone else out there have an abandoned WIP box?  Or am I the only one with an old 19" television box full of bad paint jobs, kits with missing pieces and unfulfilled dreams.

As in 2016, I've resolved to dig into the WIP box and finish off a few more in addition to new builds.  I've chosen a couple of target WIP's I'm sure I can complete.

But then at the bottom of the box was this one.  A Pocher Alfa Romeo 8C2300 Monza that I bought in 1976!  It was completed sometime in 1977 and sat on a shelf.  But one of the soft rubberlike leaf springs dried out and cracked in half sometime in the late 80's.  In the 90's I procured a leaf spring sprue online, but just never pursued rebuilding due to work schedules.  So I'm going to give a good effort to finish it off in 2017.  I plan to add a leather covered seat and some other details.  I've polished the paint on the original bodywork and it still looks OK.

What do you think?

I think we all have a box of a few stalled/failed builds. I have at least a half dozen I can think of off the top of my head.

The paint does look awesome Mike, I look forward to seeing your plans come together.

I don't have a box of stalled builds but do have probably around a dozen. I prefer to call them 'pre-started' builds as it puts a more positive spin on them and makes me feel better!! LOL.

That Alfa ;looks great Mike, got a photo of the chassis etc?

LOL... I have you all beat. I must have close to 100 old ones that are stalled due to lack of needed parts. Cant restore them without the parts to so they sit waiting for their day. Then I bet I have around 30 that have been halted for one reason or another.

I have:
9 that have fallen off the shelf or otherwise need reassembled.
14 that are significantly started
5 that have a little started
And too many that are just plans in my head...

Here's your chassis photo, Al.  Still a bit dusty.  Also a closeup of the engine.

I still have to scratchbuild a few spark plugs, I see.

I remember that engine; I had the Spyder version of the Pocher Alfa. I built the engine but got totally flummoxed by the wire wheels and sold the $150 kit for $75. That was in 1975 methinks.

As for stalled WIPs, I probably have 20.

I have a half dozen or so started kits and one diorama staring at me.  One of the cars, a 48 Ford coupe is in the assembly stage and I have no idea why I stalled out on it.  I have plans to restart Ruth's for the fourth time sometime in the not to distant future.

I have a huge abandoned WIP list. But like Al, I prefer to call them pre-started builds...LOL   Plus a host of kits that are missing parts.

I know where you're going with focusing on stalled builds. I did that last year and ended up finishing off a dozen of them.  Still have a lot that are half finished.  But the lure of a fresh kit is a siren song I can't resist.

I had one of those Pocher kits that I started in the '80's.  When I started building again in earnest, I had found this site    http://www.scalemotorcars.com/  and saw the up-grade parts and realized that if I wanted to do it right, it would cost too much.  So I sold the kit.

There must be a dozen festering away here. None are abandoned, just stalled.
As an example, the '55 BelAir I started in 2012 is now 95% done. And the '56 Nomad that dates to 2009 is close behind.

I only have one WIP that is in limbo ... for over ten years, lol - a 1/24 Karmann Ghia by Tamiya. I hope to eventually get around to it.

Your Alfa looks fantastic already, the body is beautiful and the engine and chassis detail is similarly gorgeous.

Luv that Alfa, well, I should for what the Pocher kits sell for! I actually saw one at my local car show one Friday. Two very rich guys, with the leather helmets and goggles just drove right in and parked it like it was just another oldie!
