Well that car turned out to be a total waste of time.

'30km mint and all original'  was the description, 4Kwas the firm asking price.  Turned out to have 156km and should have been an asking price more like 2K.

It needed a ton of work and about 7k to bring it up to the description. So glad I made the deal to view it for a week before I committed to buy it.
At least I had fun cruising around in it for a week. Every time I looked at it I found something else wrong with it.

I found these two last week on Kijiji. Took me a week to decide to go look at them.
A collector had five California Lincolns Mark series cars listed since mid Feb for 10k a piece. Turns out he passed away a few weeks after the listing. Last week the price was dropped to 6k.

So I go see them.   I couldn't decide between the blue/white '79 Bill Blass and the Brown '74. These things are in exceptional shape, no rust anywhere, original paint, complete cars nothing is missing, and very little wear on the interior. Great cars.

I had my wife Karen with me. She had a quick look at both.

'I'm cold, going back in the car'

I talk to the son and grandson and make an offer for one, and for both.

I walk back to Karen and announce 'I just bought both' she has a good chuckle and says 'you are nuts, well at least the'll fit in the drive way.'

Best wife ever!

I might have been able to get them for a bit less then what I paid for them but all in all it's damn hard to find a 40plus year old car with original paint in the shape these are for the price. I think 10k for both was fair considering what I have looked at so far.

The Mark V white/blue Bill Blass will be kept original, it has a 2 bbl/400cid. It will be the stepping out car.
The Mark IV brown one has a 4bbl/460cid, it will be my play toy and drive all summer.

Since I started looking for one of these cars friends ask me all the time....

'why are you buying these big ugly, slow cars?'

My answer is simple......

'I am not responsible/sensible enough with hp and handling, my brain just shuts off when the adrenaline kicks in'.

I am so excited to take delivery of these.

Ooh, that Mk IV looks worth the 10 grand alone Curt.

And you have a four choke carb and 7.5 litres, just like Frank Cannon! lol

Excellent

Thanks Shay,

Should be a fun summer of tinkering with them.
I just hope 'Bill' fits in the garage in the new house. It's a drive through so I may just have to build a bump out for it to fit in. Lol.

'Mark' can stay out side with a cover.

Great catch, Curt. That Bill Blass is beautiful.

The engine combo reminds me of my dad's 1970 Chevy Caprice. He bought it new, fully loaded and I was thrilled that it had a 396cid engine. When he let me drive it, I had to see what it would do so I stomped on it. Great power off the line, but all hp seemed to disappear shortly. When I looked under the hood later, it was a 265hp/396 - I didn't even know Chevy made one like that. It was also the last car I got a ticket in - back in 1971, I got one for doing 27mph in a 15 mph zone by radar!

Curt this all started when I first got sick.  I missed it then, but you have my attention and envy now.

Just saw this thread - advance happy 50th, Curt - and I gotta say that seeing these big old land boats brings back memories of my childhood ... as I ran in terror from the huge road beasts which regularly broke up our street hockey games

I wish you much enjoyment with them both
