PostSubject: 1971 Mustang 429 - Long Forgotten WIP Completion   Tue 13 Dec 2016, 3:42 pm

After a little break and getting late in the year, I realized one of my current year's resolutions was to finish up some of the dead projects from the old WIP box.  To date, I've only done the Klaus Ludwig Miller Mustang, so I began pulling everything out to take another look at them.

This MPC Mustang was originally a Boss 351 done in black with silver kit supplied stripes.  The hood decal was destroyed going on and when it was finished, I decided the black and silver looked terrible.  It sat in the old WIP box for almost 20 years until a few weeks ago.  I stripped and repainted it and replaced the tiny looking 351 with a 429 from the parts box.  Bought a set of replacement decals from Fred Cady many years ago so I sprayed those over with Testors decal bonder to be safe. I also bought some new tire decals.  MPC underhood detail is dreadful, so I only added the reinforcing bars.  Again I botched the hood decal - just couldn't get it to conform smoothly around the hood ducts.  So that and the spoiler were painted on with Duplicolor Silver.  The color match is much better than photos show - the decals are kind of iridescent in pictures.

Another one down for the 2016 New Year's resolution.

Broke the windshield pillars while getting the windscreen out before stripping. This one still shows.

So, it's on to another before the year runs out.
Thanks for looking.

Mike

Nice one. Looks great.

When I did my 73 version I cut the middle out of the hood decal and only used the edges around my painted middle.

Looks really good Mike, no evidence of the broken pillars, very nice work all round

A stunning build you have here. I especially like the tiny attention to detailing like the chrome trims and lettering on the tires etc. I have to ask, is that a needle or a pin you've used for the antenna?

Thanks. It's a straight pin with the head cut off.
