Sorry Paul, with Justine still in hospital, I won't be joining in with this one.

Al: My best wishes to your loved one for a full and speedy recovery.

I will be joining with this early jet. A favorite of alien technology conspiracy theorists.

Not many pieces on this build as I am building it as an inflight version. Fitment is nothing to write home about, needs some filling and reshaping in a few spots. If I was building this for a commission or a show it would need a tone of work in regards to the panel lines.
Going to be pretty big once fully assembled.

Started on the cleaning up the panel lines. Going to be shaving them all off, first off was the fuselage. A liberal amount of liquid plastic has been applied. First time using this stuff for actually filling in gaps and as a bonding agent.

Quick up date.

In my constant quest for flow in visual design I decided to remove a good chunk out of the rear section. A total scale amount of just over 9ft.
I think it has much more flow now.

Here's a glimps of my inspiration for the direction I am going with the paint.

With the automotive industry seemingly taking inspiration from Zamboni ice scrapers. the aviation industry has taken jet powered warplane design to an erection inducing level. Unfortunatly, I don't model in that genre.
I'll be watching, tho.
Curt, looking forward to your pulling off that paint job!

Seems like forever since I have posted. I have been completely absorbed in post-election analysis. It's a lot different now that I live in a foreign country.

Anyway, ready to start on the cockpit. Very basic, but I will be adding the pilot, as the Skyray will be depicted in flight when finished. Also, a mock up of the fuselage and control surfaces. Reading through the history of the F=4D1 they used the term "flaperon" which was new to me. Granted, I am not an aeronautical engineer, but I will have to learn more about it. Hope to post more progress next week.

I'm loving all these builds guys.

Curt, a few years ago I got to stand right underneath a Victor and they are huge and very impressive.

Back at it again. The cockpit and pilot are complete. However, after looking at some reference photos, I will have to add detail to the pull handles above the pilot's head. The instructions called for all grey. Also, the fuselage is now together. So, it's time for some primer and paint. Things should start to speed up now.

Well, it's been quite some time, but I'm back at it. The underbelly has been painted Insignia White. Next will be the topside color, then the decals. This USMC(The Death Dealers) unit will be carrying drop tanks, Sidewinders and rockets.

A minor setback. Whilst removing the masking from the flaperons? some paint came along with it. So I will have to repaint. But the basic paint scheme is now finished.

The general shape of this aircraft reminds me of the Vulcan bomber seen in the James Bond movie Thunderball.

For a simple kit, I encountered many problems, most of them my own doing. Needless to say, I should have completely removed the metal plating prior to priming and painting. I'm calling this one finished, though I am not at all satisfied with the results.

Yes, large . . . make it LARGE wing has the "delta" shape more like America's space re-entry vehicles or some of the Euro-planes of the past. Cool stuff to see in "retro-spect!"
Re: our Florida friend's comment that Detroit churns out restyled Zamboni-like vehicles (Frigging large SUVs and vans)it is true. like our bodies, homes, etc, bigger is more stylish. They are the mink coats of our times and are ordered in black, white or variations in silver-gray, much like fur coats.
