Looking better and better!  I'm no expert on weathering military, but since inner wheel wells show a lot, shouldn't they get some weathering/damage or such?  Just my view of it.

Perfectly correct Harron but that will get done once the body has been done.

Came across this Al, bit of a wait possibly but I find stuff comes sooner rather than later from China. I also saw these figures which are in appropriate dress.

Thanks for the links Gary.

I have a couple of dozen Flimsies from Accurate Miniatures in Inverclyde now, so I'm covered there. May still get one of those accessories sets though.

I applied a little AK and Yellow Deposit in some key areas then some Testors Dullcote:

Thanks Gary, it's good to know somebody is still following along!!!!

Luggage, Jerrycans and Flimsies painted. Still need to do some work on the drums and maybe re-work the luggage.

The luggage rack was a great idea, adds a lot of interest.

Thanks guys.

Kats.... I think you could describe the allied FATs (Morris and Chevrolet) as beautifully ughly LOL

I'm not sure what is going to go in the foreground but I'm going to use this cork mat as the base for the dio.

Excellent weathering Al. The chipping is exquisite.

Looks absolutely brilliant Al. A simple sand base (similar to a previous one I saw you produce) would suit very well in my opinion.

Thanks Kats.

My new figures arrived yesterday.

Just to give you an Idea as to where the dio is heading:

Thanks both.

OK.... tonight I set too on the figure faces using a combo of advice from my figures mentor (Gary) and a YouTube video.

First the eyes area was over painted with white. Next a dark vertical stripe was added to represent the iris. Finally for tonight Dark Flesh was added, blocking out the pupils white until I felt happy with it.

But oh dear!! The camera is so cruel. The eyes looked pretty darn good to my naked eye but the camera shows the pupils need considerably more blocking out with the dark flesh.

Great stuff Al, your right about the blocking in around the eyes.
Merry Christmas to you and Justine.

OK.... here is take two:

I think it looks much better and will go with this for now and see what it looks like when I finish the skintones. It's far from perfect but I'm happy with it as my first serious attempt at a face.

As stated above, the camera is a cruel close up instrument and in reality, the naked eye sees it much more akin to this photo:

For sense of scale:

He looks great Al, the eyes are much improved. I agree they always look better in the flesh, I think it has a lot to do with viewing them from a normal distance rather than very close up. If you find white makes the eyes look too bright add a touch of light flesh or use an 'aged white' like Valejo model air 71.132.

i must say though that his eyes look perfectly fine in colour and as you say further shadows and highlights will make a huge difference. I have to make a conscious effort not to 'overwork' the eyes and leave them at the stage you have got them to until I have more contrast in the face tones.

The eyes look great Al....other than for weathering I find scale figures the hardest to make look realistic.
