......... to (Bert) Burt Munro.

Many of you will never have heard of him but he was a 68 year old Kiwi that set the fastest ever speed for an Indian Scout motorcycle back in 1967. 49 years ago to-day in fact.  (Thanks for the HU Mitch).

If, like me, you are a speed freak, you really must watch the movie about his record runs at Bonneville. He was an amazing man and embodied everything that the amateur hot rodder should.

Here is a trailer for the movie to excite you:

His wiki page isn't very long but is an interesting read:

Burt Munro

Also here is a short documentary about him too:

He set the record in 1967 at 183mph but also made an officially one way timed run at in excess of 205mph!!!

This is his bike:

In this world where top race cars can cost millions of pounds, it's a refreshing look back at where the true spirit belongs.

Enjoy.

Off to watch 'The Worlds Fastest Indian' again now.

Watched the film a few years ago, an amazing and completely off his head bloke, I thought it was another great performance from Anthony Hopkins (not that I think he's made a single bad film)
