For a large scale kit, the motor isn't that well detailed. That's a surprise, but your clever "used" look to the block/cylinders really helps. Well done!

From a guy that spent what seems like a lifetime working on the VW's.
Add a light oil trail down from behind the crank pulley to the bottom of the block.
Other than that you have it nailed!

That's a great gloss finish there, Ken. What paint?

Hi thanks all OT thanks for the tip will add that oil. It's 151 paint from a cheap shop, less than 2 quid a can and available in a variety of colours (my missus told me she saw some metallic in thing me bobs yesterday so will have to check that out.

Wonderful looking build so far. That engine is really top notch and the paint rocks.

Beautiful work! The body colour is great and the detailing is fantastic! I have photos of real Karmann Ghia engine compartments for my own build (1/24 Tamiya Karmann) and you nailed the look

Great color for a Ghia!
My 1:1 was lime green! The only other color I think they look good in!

Hi all here is the next update, I'm finding it difficult not to over do the weathering, I'm going for well cared for but used, thing is I love making things old and neglected I think it makes a subject more interesting, keeping that in check is proving extremely difficult, but I have to as the spray job is one of the best I've done, I'm really proud of the gloss (although I think that's just down to the great cheap paint) (incidentally I checked out thing me bobs where my missus said they sold it in metallic colours (only gold and silver in metalic) but even better bargain only a quid a can, of course I couldn't resist so I bought another 5 cans.

If you really feel the need to dirty things up might I suggest the undercarriage and engine compartment, but leave the interior mostly clean and the body pristine. Many of the really nice looking cars I've personally seen had some of the worst accumulations of crud in the engine compartment - the owners were thinking 'curbside' in real life, I guess, lol.

The Karmanns I remember mostly had cream colored roofs and were 2-tones. Yours brings it into a neat streamlined look. Nice interior!

We saw quite a few come through the shop that were single color. All except the yellow ones. They all had an off white top!
