Limelight on Promodmerc

Real Name: Dan Whitaker

Date of Birth: Feb 7th 1967

Place of Residence: Raytown Missouri (Kansas City Suburb)

Occupation: Industrial Rubber Products Goods hose specialist.

Interests or hobbies besides modelling
There are other hobbies? I'm pretty much into all auto racing except NASCAR. With Drag Racing being my favorite, especially Pro Modified and ANDRA Top Doorslammer.

It sounds like you have an interesting occupation, would you care to expand on that a little please?

Funny how a company comes up with fancy sounding names. I'l try to explain as best I can.
The company I work for is an industrial supplier (basically an automotive parts store but for industrial).

I work at the corporate location which has many different departments for particular types of parts
(bearings, seals electric motors, gear reducers etc.) The department I work in makes conveyor belts, industrial hose & hydraulic hoses. We don't manufacture, we build/assemble.

I work in the hose side. When one of our stores has a customer that needs a hose the store calls me to identify, or make a recommendation on what they need. It can get pretty involved especially when it comes to hoses for chemical use or very high pressure hydraulic hose applications

I'v been doing this for almost 11 years and I have been with the same company for 27-1/2 years.

When did you build your first model and can you remember what it was?

It was 1976 or 1977 and it was an AMT Pacer. Heck of a first kit to start with.

What sports do you play or watch (besides motorsport):

None. If it doesn't have wheels, I'm not interested. My dad was not a big sports person. He is the reason I have a love for cars

What type of music do you favour and who are your favourite artistes?

I favor heavy metal & blues, but I listen to all kinds of different types and genres. My favorite artists are ZZ Top, B.B. King, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, AC/DC, Suicidal Tendencies & D.R.I.

Which are your favourite foods and drinks?

Food is definitely Bar-B-Que. I'm not talking about hamburgers on a grill. I'm talking slow smoked, juicy tender meat. Italian is a close second. Favorite drink/beverage is Diet Dr. Pepper. I rarely drink alcohol.

Who is your favourite author and what genre of fiction do you favour.?

Not a book worm.

Thinking of famous people, who would you most like to meet (past or present) and what would you like to ask or say to them.

Steve McQueen and ask him how much fun did he have making the movie Bullit.
James garner and ask how much fun did he have making the movie Grand Prix.

Marooned on a desert island which luxury item and which essential item would you take with you and why?? (No means of communicating with the outside world is permitted)

I'd only take an essential which would be a gun, because I'd kill myself. I'd rather be stranded on a mountain.

If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would it be and why would you like to go there?

Alaska. I really would like to see the mountains and wilderness.

best childhood memory

Going to my grandma's for Christmas every year and getting her molasses cookies as one of my gifts.

if you could witness any event of the past, present or future, what would it be?

The past. I'd love to to see late 60's early 70's drag racing in person.

How many built models do you have in your collection, which are your favourites and why?

40-50. 90% of them are from my teen age years. My favorites are the ones from my teen age years. It was before there was resin, photo etch etc. and I enjoyed it much more, there were no distractions (work wife, bills etc.)

Which are you favourite films?

Where do I start? I'll just give my abridged list.
Blues Brothers, Animal House, Bullit, Grand Prix, Gumball Rally, Cannonball Run, Corvette Summer
Smokey & The Bandit, The Italian Job, the whole Thin Man series, Double Indemnity,

What is your favourite car, bike or plane?

I'd have to say the '32 Ford. It is the iconic car that started the hot rod craze.

If you could change something about our hobby, what would it be and why?

The cost and the fit of model kits. The cost of a model kit today is outrageous, and I can't help but think the fit issue drives many first time builders away.

People involved in our early lives often have the most influence upon us. Would you care to tell us who that person was for you and why?

It was my dad. He was in is late teens/early 20's when the hot rod craze started. He told me about some of the cars he modified and he was a mechanic. He started taking me to the World Of Wheels & Darrel Starbird car shows when I was 6 or 7. We went every year until I was 19 or 20.

Finally, is there anything else you would like to add?

I just want to thank you for asking me to partake in Limelight. I really enjoyed it on eScale.

and id like to thank you for being my first victim volunteer
