PostSubject: Revell 64 Fairlane   Sun 03 Jul 2016, 2:26 am

This has been an on & off project the last couple of years. I was originally going to build it as a street macchine with the 302 engine from one of the Revell 23 Ford variants. I then decided to build it as a drag car using the kit engine and a tunnel ram from a Revell 710 Shelby Mustang 500.

I then changed my mind again and decided to use the dual quad high rise intake that comes with the Fairlane kit and go with the injector scoop and carbs from the Revell 68 Corvette roadster street machine kit.

I had cut the top of the tear drop off the hood when  with the tunnel ram, then I decided to use the stack hood and a parts box scoop.

The body color will be what is on the test spoon. It is Wt & Wild nail polish Under Your Spell W(who the hell comes up with these names?)

The hood will be Tamyia TS 42 Light Gun Metal.

Pics of the intake once I start the engine.

Wow you're really on a building spree, now see if you can parley that into a finish spree.  Good start.

Love the colour, um, might have to check out my missus nail varnish, I take it, that is your missuses nail varnish?, not that I'm saying there's anything wrong with it being your nail varnish, I'll stop digging this hole now.

Not the missus. She comes to me when she wants nail polish.

There is a store here in the states called Dollar General. I look at the nail polish every time I'm there.  They have a big selection and are $1.00 a bottle.

A couple of years ago before Christmas we were in a discount/ close out store and found a cool color. The wife was jealous as it was some designer brand that usually sells for close to $10 a bottle. I paid  $1.30 each.

Nice colour choices! As for who comes up with the names of nail polish, just think of a whole bunch of profit-motivated, post millennial suits running endless focus groups in order to give their product the best possible chance of increasing shareholder value. You know, the same kind of people who think that naming sports arena's after insurance providers is a good thing

Got the hood painted.

I had discovered a few sanding scratches on the body so I had to take care of them and touch up the primer. It will probably next weekend before I get it painted.

You guys crack me up. Leave Dan alone, he's trying.
Dan stop worry about every little problem and just concentrate on getting another model finished this yea, there's still 6months left.

Curt,

It was just a small place on the trunk & left front fender. I'm trying to advane myself each build. I am going to polish the paint on this build. I did the hood in a different color as it would be hard to polish. Plus I think the contrast will turn out great.

It's going to be the bare metal foil that will send me to the insane asylum

It's not really the process as I've done small bits in the past. It's the waste of foil and blades that drives me mad.

I got the color coat on the body. I love the color, I'm just not thrilled that dust and other crap ended up  in it .

The problem is,
with the dark color I didn't see the trash in the paint until it was too late.  There is a little orange peel but after a few coats of clear & polish it should be o.k.

It must be the lighting. I hadn't noticed until you said something. In person it hasn't changed color.

Closer look reveals it's just the reflection of the green cloth.

I was a bit fooled too. Depending which direction the light is coming from, colors can seem strange, especially on curved surfaces of models.
