PostSubject: 1968 Firbirds "It's Twins"   Thu 26 May - 2:38

Well looks like I am back on the bench after a long lay off. Eye sight problems, cataract surgery in both eyes, and then n3ew glass that make everything blurry. I got a list of excuses for being gone you wouldn't believe, or maybe you would.

My Insurance Agent called me up and ask me about a couple commission builds. Seems his life long best friend and he had identical 1968 Pontiac 400 whens in high school. Used cars bought on the same day in two different towns. Mark said when his Dad and him got home with his car, his buddy called and came over with his first car and they were twins. What are the odds.

Anyway I am starting with two of these kits.

The color is Verdoro Green. I got the paint from Mate at Gravity Paints. It was a Custom mixed but had it in 4 days time, Great Service, I also got some of his two part Clear Coat. When it got here thinner had leaded inside the box. I contacted him on Facebook and had new thinner and Catalyst here in 3 days. The thinner and Catalyst come in separate bottles but packaged together. The interior is a basic Black and Chrome Late 60's GM Interior. So that will be easy. The cars had Black vinyl tops so will use masking tape to add them, when the time comes.

So far I have the hoods sanded and fitted to the bodies, seems like Revell hoods are always a little to wide. Chassis cleaned up and painted. The Interior pieces have their Semi-Gloss Black applied. The chassis have been painted up a bit and I will add brake, fuel plumbing soon.

The engines have been squared up and MEK'ed together, then the Pontiac Engine Blue added. The Bell housings and Muncie 4-speeds were painted with Orr-Lac Dull Aluminum.

Also have a lot of the little Doo Dah pieces done, Exhaust Manifolds, distributors, All that little stuff. Before I put it together I will drop the front end about .125" mainly because all these old Revell Muscle Car Models sit to high in the front. Hope to have more of and update in a couple days.

Thanks for looking in. All comments and questions welcome.

It's been a bit since I did an update on this one so I will try it now. Since I started this I have updated the computer to Windows 10 and it's just not the same. But I think I have it Zorked out now. Problem is photos but now I think I have found them.

Mostly I have been doing all the little things like distributors, alternators, shocks, etc so there isn't that much to look at. I do have the wheels done.

This is what I started with.

After some detail painting and the such got them to this point.

The spokes really aren't that black, they are grey like a Pontiac Rally wheel. Just trying to figure out Windows 10 and a new Camera also. I do think this can be done.

Also got some of the engine work done. Starters, oil filters and a coat Of Dulpi-Color Metal Cast Smoke paint to bring out the details.

Exhaust systems are done also. forgot to mention that part.

Wanted to bring the front of the car down just a bit so I plugged the axle holes in the A Member with .0625" Plastic rod and re-drilled the holes as High as I could get them. In scale .125" is 3 inches so this about to about a 2 1/2 inch drop.

Okay now that I know I can update the thread and find the photos I will have more very soon. Thanks for looking in sorry for the delay. All questions and comments are welcome.

Good work Buck.

That's a substantial front end drop Buck, you dropping the rear end too? Either way they will look good.

Great work! The rims look good despite the camera issues and the engine work is sharp. Can't wait to see what's next

Okay been doinking around with this one, or these, and have the stance finally set so it looks right.

Now that I have the stance set so it looks presentable I will move on to the interior. Door Panels, Dash and the such, Also Will; finish up the engines and add the detail goodies.

Thanks for looking in. Any questions and comments are welcome.
