This kit was a gift from SWMBO early in our relationship - which means I built it about 15 - 17 years ago.  It was the last scale model kit I built until I started on my rescue of a wrecked Cutty Sark. Not sure what year this car is, I think it was a 1936 version.  I remember the kit itself was beautifully detailed as Heller kits tend to be.  The body was painted with Testor's rattle cans, a deep purple/black and metallic sable if I remember correctly.  The chrome work is all kit original.  There is some BMF as well but I forget exactly where I used it.

I do remember that I thoroughly enjoyed this build. Hope you like it.

I always liked this one Kats. It's one very stately car. Lovely neat wiring.

Very neat engine wiring. An authentic limo from the era is always beautiful. It would also look very real with a canvas "roof" over chauffer's compartment. Excellent work, your skills then were fine indeed!

Such an elegant Era for coach works. I have never been pleased with my attempts at modeling these. Never quite captured the essence like I wished.

The specialty coach-built cars can look not as elegant as we think. I feel part of it is size, unless placed next to a "normal" car of the era, the differences in detail and larger size of the limos aren't apparent. In the models, model companies sometimes cut corners and bumpers, grilles, and wire wheels occasionally look kinda clunky. Engine and front view look excellent.
Manufacturer quality can vary too. Here in the U.S. the old Jo-Han '30s Mercedes and Cadillacs are as nice as anything. The 1/24 Monograms like the boat tail Packard and Rolls Royce kits are almost as nice. Sad that nothing much new here in "golden era" luxury model kits.
A few large scale classics do look good, due to their large sizes. They are, however, pricey and rare.

I totally agree with your view on the 'perspective' of these coach cars - many times I've seen a model of a 'limo' from this era and putting it next to a similar scale modern car really helps pop out the differences.  And the issue of kit manufacture is spot on, this was a Heller kit and though it was very well detailed there were also some serious issues with the undercarriage I remember dealing with.  And Heller is a pretty respectable company for this sort of kit.  Once I was perusing larger scale, 1/16 or so, kits of the 1930's era and was surprised at the lack of availability and the extremely unbalanced pricing.  There was even a 1/16 Excalibur kit I saw, manufacturer completely forgotten, but it was priced at around $400.00 CAD, way too much for a kit if that size.  And sadly the kits that are more reasonable in price often are flawed to the point of being not worth the effort.  Too bad, as I really like this era of motor car.
