That's right, the subject is "Pickup". Starts May first and runs through the end of June. Open ended as before, just get it started before the end of June to qualify. Check out the rules in the discussion thread and HAVE FUN !!!

Hi all,

Well this is going to be my very first group build, this is what I am starting with, it's going to be a proto-type...: -

I have two the same, this is the better one of the two, there are parts missing from each kit, but enough to make something with them...

Box Art...: -

Bits in box...: -

I like your choice Paul....... Top Gear's toughest truck in the world. Going to bang it up?

Andy..... that will be an interesting conversion to say the least.

Mike.... another great choice..... what are your plans for it?

It's going to take quite a while before my new hobby room is up and running and the little 1:72 plane I'm doing will be finished p.d.q. so I'm going to pitch in with this one:

Been wanting to do an Elkie for long enough so now is a good excuse. Not sure if I will use the decals or not and still undecided on paint colour. I MAY decide to lower the suspension though.

A pick up GB...I really have to keep a better eye on these things...entry by end of June...hmmm
I will be keeping this on my radar, there's already some nice projects here.

Mike - I built the 41 Chevy and it is a very nice kit but just watch for the hood fit. I don't recall if I had to move the firewall forward to fix the issue. Sorry it's been awhile.

Did you emphasize that it would be Wimbledon white? Then you will get this reaction.

My attempt will consist of using some of these components ... undecided on the wheels untill it's "sort of" together, then i'll faff with the suspension so they look decent (ish)

Hmmm a Beetle pick up Colin. Interesting.

OK I made a start and the first order of the day was to 'git her down' a bit.

For the front I cut off the spindles and pinned them back on higher up:

For the rear, I simply cut two coils of the springs:

This makes the dif. sit at an angle, which would still work but would not be good practice..... do I care?.... do I heck!! LOL

The drop at each end is approx a scale 85mm (3.5")

This is the stock stance:

And this is where I have her now:

The rear end is as low as it will go but the front end will go down another 1mm (scale 1") when the chassis is glued in.

Al:  Nice stance for an oldie.

Got a couple of things done here.
Since the last truck I did was red upper with a black lower scheme, I decided this should be blue with black.  I had some Boyd's Paciffic Blue laying around, so that was it.

Engine is painted and wired.  Just a little more to go.

Frame pieces are together and it's been tested for sitting flatly on 4 wheels.

That's all for now.

That's a nice blue. I'm looking forward to see what you will do with the black.

I agree with Denis...... the blue looks very nice. I'm assuming you will be doing the wings and running boards with the black. If so, that will be a nice combo.

A little more done.

Cut out the aluminum strips of the decal and applied just the wood slats.

The engine detail is done.  Added fuel and vacuum lines.

Handpainted the whitewalls since decal whitewalls were more like 60's style.

But the exhaust pipe doesn't reach to the manifold! Have to fix.

Moving along,
Mike

Nice call on cutting out the aluminum strips I didn't use the decals because of it and the same with the white walls provided. The engine looks good in gray. I don't remember having an issue with the exhaust pip and the manifold fitting, maybe a bend in the exhaust will fix that. The decals are really going to complete the wheel nicely. Keep it coming Mike!

Looks like a great fit, Colin. The VW rear fenderline should fit well on it.
