PostSubject: Millennium Falcon in 1:241 scale.   Tue 26 Apr 2016, 12:12 am

With just four days to go before the start of my next group build and with the Diablo on hold pending new glassware, I thought I'd try this dinky little thing. (Just 100mm long).

Parts count is just twenty and everything snaps together. So I suppose it's all about the paint. With no AB available to me, I'll just have to see what I can achieve with rattle cans and brushing.

I do Colin..... unfortunately they are packed away at the far end of the container!!!

Well, it's all together now. (all 18 parts) Just needs a light clear coat and it will be ready for detail painting.

The instructions call for the rear end (clear styrene) to be painted light blue but I wanted something a bit more believable so I found this on the web, re-sized it and printed it off:

I gave the whole upper surface a heavy black wash:

Then removed most of it with a cotton bud dipped in meths:

I'll see how it looks tomorrow when I may take some more off.

Looks good at the moment Al.

Maybe a dry brush with some silver to accentuate the raised points and give it a little space damage?

I'll try the dry brushing silver Colin and I like the idea of 'space damage'...... just not sure how to do it.

Looks convincing to me Al, I like your engine light and weathering. I have this in 1/48ish, would love to build it with all the PE add-on bits.

In the spacey things I've done, I've gone for worn leading edges, pastel dust "meteorite impact", a bit of lighter coloured dust embedded on the lower area from landing ..... That sort of thing ... At the end of the day it can't be incorrect eh lol

I liked it with the original dark wash too. It would look fine with a lighter look as well. In truth, sci-fi projects are a real "free hand" genre. Any weathering will improve these projects.

Looks great. Both the heavy and the wiped shots look great. Nice work, Al.
