PostSubject: Grumman Goose   Tue 12 Apr 2016, 7:50 pm

I am doing this as part of a group build on another site and thought I would share it here as well.
This is the 1/48 Lindberg Goose kit built to represent one that my dad worked on when I was in grade school. The kit is based on a toy from the 1960s and has many inaccuracies that I have attempted to fix.

This is the 1:1 aircraft as it appeared in 1969.
The interior had fittings for batteries and an electric motor that I cut out and replaced with a floor and bulkheads but no seats. The first external change was to reshape the tail to match the real bird.

Other work included shortening the nacelles and adding firewalls behind the engines, removing some of the toy like fittings, massive seam filling, and adding spray rails along the chines.

The overall Ivory has been sprayed and some of the computer printed decals added.

Engines painted and installed, spinners made from Hurricane drop tanks

More paint and wing floats added.

I now need to scratch up some landing gear, antennae, and brace wires for the floats. I may also build a beach base for it to sit on.

Now I like that .... Will look even better with your scratch bits.

Nice shape to it..... Might have to consider one myself

It is a hard job to correct model errors. Nice of you to renew memories. Good luck with this one.

That's nice. I used to work for Grumman, before it was Northrop Grumman. But the Goose is before my time.

Goose may be a good name. It has a practical but stubby look, not as graceful as some planes. I hope you get to finishing it soon. I like all prop planes from the past.

Been workin' on the Goose again. Scratched up some bits to finish the landing gear and added the kit wheels. Lost the replacement tail wheel so am working on another.

Now I need to add mass balances for the elevators, a red lense  for the tail beacon, and some antennae for the top of the fuse. It helps me see whats missing when I post pictures of a build.

Am glad you're back at it. After a dormant period, I look and see again how unusual the proportions are ("stubby" but vital for short water "runways") and the diameter of the engines as seen in front view. Lotsa power in them. Keep up working!
