PostSubject: A minus dragsrer   Tue 12 Apr 2016, 7:20 pm

With paint curing, I turn to my next project.
Having robbed the engine from the Jolly Roger kit, I didn't want to let the rest go to waste.  I found a flathead block in the salvage piles, a pair of old KKKK Ardun resin heads, and fished out the FI unit, with the snorkled air cleaners, that I didn't use from the 48 woody. I'll try to use that in the dragster stuff.  I can legally  use the dragster's 4 port zoomies with the Ardun heads.

That dragster looked obscenely long (I know that's how they're supposed to be)  and the Jolly Rogers front wheels look as if the were pirated from a grocery cart. So, I found some less offensive (to me) wheels and decided to shorted the dragsters frame about 2 sections !
Still looks awful danged long !!

I guess we'll see what kind of abortion I can come up with !

It does still look long doesn't it .... Just hackle and mackle it into a shape you're happy with .... It'll be another geezer special at the end of the day.

You could probably do away with another section and none would be the wiser or at least offended.

They are long. LOL The rule book says 300 inch wheel base and most are right on that spec. I do remember when they ran the little Grocery Cart Wheels and tires up front.

The front part is done. except for taking a section out of the frame and making adjustments on relative parts, it is pretty straightforward out of the box.
I did attach the dragster tranny to the flathead engine. I'll be pulling of this to finish the Belvedere and then it'll be getting the flathead to look like a dragster mill.

Nice one Clay.

If it were me, I think I'd shoehorn the engine up front and make it into a bodied digger!!

Not a bad idea, Skid.
That would make it into a more challenging project. I like the absurdity of a flathead rear engined big fueler look.

Had to rework the rear frame section to make room for the headers coming out of the flathead.

Hi Mr G,

I've never really been a fan of this style dragster on the track, I have however always loved seeing them in the pits, the amount of engineering that goes into them is amazing, may I ask, does the frame come in pre-made sections or do you have to build it from separate pieces of pipe...

Looks great...

Andy... popcorn

The main front section is one piece. Just have to add a couple of cross braces. The rear section is as you see it here. The side sections of the rear are added to the completed front section and built on from there.
Cheers.

I have the tail section on and the engine mounts in place and starting to put the engine stuff together.
Just so's y'all know that I know, the plumbing and stuff is entirely BOGUS !! Chalking it up to imagineering, and even that is stretching it!

That's looking real good.  I love the air cleaners.
Bogus works Clay.  Everything we do is to simulate the look of the real thing, unless we used the very same materials from the 1:1 to make a 1:24 replica it's all make belief.  Imagineer away!
To the rivet counters out there

The Ardun flathead is complete and installed.
I'm doing some finishing up details and will post photos in NMA shortly.
Haven't built a dragster model before, and liked the experience. It kept me using the remains of the Jolly Roger kit after I had robbed the engine for the Belvedere.

Looks great Clay. Zora would smile to see a set of his heads on that engine.
