PostSubject: TV Batmoblie, New Pictures.   Sat 19 Mar 2016, 1:58 am

I built this for a friend about four yrs ago.

Sorry for all the picks guys, I just couldn't decide which ones to post up.

This was a blast to build. It's actually painted Tamiya NATO Black which is actually a dark green that kinda looks like mold. I used Tamiya clear with a heavy mix of gold dust added in.

I would really like to build another one some day and actually paint all the Orange pin stripping.

I took building liberty and put a turbine engine in the back, which is from the MPC STP Indy Turbine kit.

Edit: I picked this up off my buddy today and took much better pictures for the MOM.

Interesting painting technique. Nato black with a pearl clear finish.
Lovely smooth flat finish!!

Thanks guys.

Mr. H, just wanted to try something. The real Bat Mobile in the first big screen pic from the late '80's is actually a really dark green too. It is said that it was painted the dark green to make it easier to get to look right on film.

Paul, they weren't bad at all.

Colin, it is actually a good kit. It comes in the basic kit and the deluxe kit. The deluxe kit includes painted figures, and a turbine engine plus a bunch of other stuff.

I had to buy it once I built the basic kit.

Looks good Curt. Great job on the decals. I always envy you guys that can do decals well; it's a big weakness of mine.

That looks really sharp Curtis! I picked up this kit a couple weeks ago so I will have to remember to use dark green and not black. Great job on the decals, narrow and long can be very tricky.

Thanks John, most of the time the problems are a result of crappy decals, too strong of adhesive with very short working time.

Shelby, the decals are really forgiving. Did you get the deluxe kit?

John, I have a method that I have used since I was a kid, not that I am an expert. With this method you never have to worry about the decals floating away and you can have a bunch sitting and soaking. It makes the process much faster, and much less stressful. Use a small number 0 detail brush to position and move the decals around, Q-tips also really help to absorb excess water once you have them positioned.

This brush needs to be replaced, but you get my meaning.

I have the same kit as yours POL837 and the deluxe is POL811 I believe.
I never thought of putting a sponge at the bottom of my container, that will be a time saver. Good tip Curtis!

Sponge idea is sooo clever!  Re: real Batmobile,  for the tv series  The one was, as many know, a modified car not really built for heavy use, and frequently broke down, overheating was a constant problem as well.  I built a smaller scale 1/32 (?) curbside model back in the day.  The ones now are a good deal better, and pricier than the less than a dollar kit in the '60s.

Ya totally, the TV car was a real POS. I have always wanted to buy the kit of the car that the Bat Mobile was built from and build my own TV series car to replicate the process of the mods in scale.
Not sure if I really want to take on all that work or not just think it would be cool to do the mods in scale.

Great job on a kit you don't see built to often. Nice tip of the decals.

A sponge?? What a fantastic idea! That seems a very good idea and I will certainly adopt that idea. Also, i'm goin to give the NATO black technique a go with a 69 Charger I have in the stash.
Your ideas are rubbing off on me. Many thanks.

Your Batmobile looks fantastic, Curt! You decal work is great, too. I like the sponge idea for doing decals - why didn't I ever think of that? Keep up the great work.

Thanks very much Greg, it was a blast to do.

The sponge sure makes decals soooo much more enjoyable.
