PostSubject: 1975 Falcon XB GT Goss Race Car   Tue 08 Mar 2016, 3:04 pm

I waited for a bit before posting this here because I wasn't sure if I was going to do a street car version or a race car.

Well, race car won out.

I am going to use a resin model I got from a fellow modeler 9 or 10 years ago to try and make a replica of the Goss Bartlett race car.

I don't know what served as the master for this casting and I can't remember exactly where I got it from but it is pretty crisp and I think it will make a decent curb side model. The first pictures aren't in focus but the rest are better.
The casing is very thick and it didn't come with any glass so I am using parts box glass and trimming it to fit. I am trying to back cut the resin so the glass fits and looks as good as possible. It's not perfect but it looks okay.

The back glass was the toughest, I used a windshield from a Lamborghini Countach and trimmed it up and then used a candle to gently heat the lower corners and bend them up to fit the opening as best I could.

The wheels are pieces and bits from about 3 different sets of wheels. They are a little too wide but I like them and I am going to use them like this.

The details on the body are molded in so, careful painting and BMF should give me a decent model.

Nice start, Mitch. Are you going to make your own decals?

I'm going to have to. I can't find anything already made. I have found all the logos on the internet to make copies of
, the radio station 2UW
Aunger wheels logo,
Hardie-Ferodo1000 logo.
Citizen
Shell

The only ones that I won't be able to do are the white letters.

I'm not sure if I will just do black and or try to use white decal paper and adjust the back ground to my paint color.
The problem with that is they never look as crisp.

Decals look good Mitch For the white ones I've used white decal paper and try to get the background color as close as I can to the paint and then trim as close to the decal as you can with only a small edge of blue showing or what ever color it is

Nice to see an Aussie car being modelled, Mitch. Not many of them in kit form. Are you using the kit chassis? A Mustang is the closest relation, they shared many suspension parts.
It raced in a class called "Group C" and they had full interiors, less console & carpets.
This link might help. My apologies if you have it already.

Sweet Mitch! What type of printer do you use?

I used the Epson inkjet my wife has in her office.... not the best...

Here are the decals

Pictures of the paint and the start of the BMF

Pictures of the clear after I remembered the blue was enamel...

Pictures of the repaint, I have a little bit of cleanup to do around the tape marks and I need to blend the edges of the blue a bit but I think it will be okay after I polish it up a bit.

Pictures of the wheels with Alclad and the brushed details.

Nice to try for a really rare racer. Quality of resin cast bodies from "Cottage Industry" makers was from good to terrible. You're doing well with decals, but as with so many builds, on this one the paint was the gremlin! Best of luck on the rest!

Thanks for the interest guys.

I am going to be complete stripping this one and starting over on the paint. Being curbside I needs to have a better paint job. I "fixed" the crinkling but the paint is too thick now.

I should do a better job on the next paint job. I am getting some practice on a bigger scale...

It's a unique model and I know you'll work things out with it.

As for white decals, it worth a try to scan a sample of the blue you're using. Then import it into word or excel as your background color or a jpg and place text over it in white color. Trimming them close to the text will reduce any color mismatch effect.

Good luck.
