I'm in control again................

The camera I have been using for the last eighteen months is a cracking little Nikon bridge camera but is fully automatic and therefore I have no control over the depth of field. Brilliant for holiday snaps with a fantastic zoom lens but not really great for models. Finally got sick of that, so capitulated and bought a new one with full auto AND full manual control. DSLR this time!!

Once again I have full control over the aperture and am able to maximise depth of field.

Check out these two photos. The first is the best result with the old camera and the second is with the new camera:

While I was there, I also bought a cracking mini tripod, perfect for model photography. It can go completely flat or be raised up to about about 35mm, and best of all it can stay permanently attached to the camera. It has a real quality feel to it and was reasonably priced too at seventeen quid.

Happy chappy tonight!!

Hi Al,

This look's like a sweet piece of kit, I also love the ole 850 shell, is that a kit you can buy or is it a resin made body...

I see what you mean about the depth of field Al.

They're nice cameras ... had a few Nikon in my time as a photo-y-type-person.

Auto mode on a camera is a bit like traction control .... you only use it if you can't drive properly

As a Nikon owner also, nice camera. And a great comparison.

I have a Nikon D90, which is pretty much always set on "aperture priority" mode, so the operator can control the depth of field. I also shoot in the RAW format, so I can pretty much do any finesse work on my computer with Photoshop Lightroom. The only drawback to RAW are the high file sizes.
