PostSubject: Italeri Schwimmwagen 1/35   Mon 04 Jan 2016, 8:10 pm

Hi Guys

I decided to try something totally different from my normal cars and bikes and here it is

Box art and sprues

When building the lower half its split down the middle just like a boat is, so I have filled and sanded the seam line and moved onto the painting part, the instructions say grey, but I want a camo theme and dont know what im doing so I picked a colour which looked like sand and painted the base...

Then got out the Humbrol Maskol and made some patterns on the body

Now I need another colour possibly a green so I grabbed the Olive Drab and painted over the dried Maskol

Then rubbed it off and Maskol'd again, picked another colour this time I decided on Red Brown so I painted it once more then rubbed it off.

It now looks like this,

I painted the floor and darkened the foot wells front and back to mimic peoples muddy boots

Tried the wheels on for size, the centres will be painted and will try some light weathering of the treads and lower body of the car/boat at the end.

So tell me what you think people please,

have I gone too far with the extreme colours too light to too dark?
Should I go back to bikes and messing up cars?
Shall I sell all my kits, retire from modelling and go back to my PS4?

Thanks for looking

Ash

and another lured to the dark side :)

the reason the instruction said grey is cos it would be a pre mid-1943 paint scheme
post mid-43 it changed to a base of dark yellow....units would get green and redddish brown paint which they could add how ever they wanted, and cos of the fact they could thin the paint with anything from water to petrol the shade could change too...and they could apply it by whatever means they had available...spray guns, paint brushes, yard brushes, rags, whatever.....so what you have done is entirely plausable

Its a refreshing change for me Clay but holy moly its small when compared to 'normal stuff' in my naivety I cant tell the difference from one tank to the next, which is why this car/boat stood out.. Its different and I had to get its brother the Kubelwagen.

If I had built the 1/12 GT500 I have this would have sat on the rear seat inside it

There are guys, who can carve a ship out of a grain of rice....... however, you'll have to invest in a microscope.
