The Ferrari is looking superb Paul.

Wheels and tyres look good Cole.

Front and rear suspension completed, engine installed and she's up on her wheels.

There will now be a short pause while I wait for some black BMF to arrive for the window surrounds.

I tried the stuff a good few years ago and I know others report that it's difficult to use but I'm hoping the more experienced me can make it work this time!!

Best of luck with that, Al. I've always found it too thick to work with easily

Alfa is really getting its beauty treatment now that sub-assemblies are coming together!  Wheel decals really add to it.

Sam..... I have the Wolf WR1 in the stash so will be keen to see how your goes together. Just make sure you do ONE side of exhaust manifolds at a time. If you cut both sets of and then get them mixed up, assembly becomes a nightmare. Even with just one side, take great care to know which part is which!!

Al....that was the understatement of the century.

This model just does not like me. As I started working on it, I started to have flash backs and not the good kind.

If anyone wants to build this thing, make sure that ALL of the basic engine assembly is 100% square in every way. When I started this kit at the age of 12, I did a very good job of gluing, but not so good of a job getting things lined up right. I tried for a few days but could not get the engine apart without breaking it. So went ahead with what I had....then found out how fiddly those injectors were and lost and broke more than I want to say. Good thing I had a spare engine. Then a week worth of fighting the exhaust. Anyway, this is one model that I will be very happy when its done.

Here is what I have accomplished over the past number of weeks...broken header pipe and all....

Looking good Al. Who makes the black foil you will be using? I'm very interested.
Sam, despite the difficulties, it looks great.
The roll cage, wheels, and tires are now on. Next are more safety panels? Then I can tackle the body. The Shunko decals don't include most of the blue areas on the body panels. I'm thinking of applying the original decals then masking and painting over. Does that have a chance of succeeding? I would welcome members comments and suggestions.

I did warn you!!! They are tough and no mistake. Even when being careful.

No matter though, you cracked it and it look spot on.

It's made by Bare Metal Foil Cole and goes by the name 'Black Chrome'.

Looking great Cole.

I'd apply the decals and see how they turn out first Cole. Mine weren't it great shape either but I managed.

If you decide to paint over them, I'd advise clear coating them first.

Wow, everyone has come a long way.

Gorgeous build Paul.

Looking great Cole.
Al, hopefully you will be able to complete this one.
Any updates Bruce?

The 46 panel took me away from this exercise for a few weeks.
I am doing the body mods to the Tommy Ivo rail (Hunt Bros rail) to make it look more like the movie car.

Nice one Mitch.

Well the black BMF arrived and despite being much more proficient in applying it since the last time, it  still didn't work out. It really is garbage IMO. I think the main cause, is because it seems quite a lot thicker.

So after the re-spray I tried masking up with Tamiya tape and all went well until I had to remove a section in order to re-apply................ you guessed it............... up came the paint down to the bare plastic.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So now it's taking a bath again.

So I thought I'd get back to the Talbot. After stripping the paint I assembled the body with the front bulkhead and interior. I then inserted spogne in the interior, aircraft style, but couldn't get a proper mask around the upper seat edges, so I masked with Tamiya tape again.

Sensing this might be a problem, after five minutes, I gently removed it and the bloody primer peeled again and again sanding back only served to keep on removing more!!!

I can't blame lack of prep this time as I made double sure of that............ so I can only think it must be the new primer I'm using. It's fine for single colours but it appears it's rubbish when masking is needed.

So they are both back on the back burners until I can get some of my old primer.

Too bad it's giving ya fits, Skid. That has to be a right handsome classic when it gets built.

Those rails are looking good Mitch.

Sorry to hear of your continued difficulties Al. Don't let it keep you down.

As for mine, the decals have been applied. Problems with most, but one just disintegrated. After some thorough drying time, I'll mask and paint. This will give me a chance to better match the Shunko decals I purchased.

Ah bugger! that's a shame Cole.

I don't know whether or not I have mentioned this before, but full AM decals are available:

Wow lots of paint issues across the board...

I am trying to get caught up with everyone's progress.

Here is where I am

I did some masking and tried to replicate the paint job on the Hunt Bros car.

I started off with Hemi Orange which has some metallic in it. Then oversprayed it with some decanted garnet red Dupli Color by air brush trying to stay thin with the red on the high points so the orange with show through.
The black is Dupli-Color. I was going to use the charcoal gray metallic but it was about empty and started spitting.
So I did the black base and then let the gray spit as an over spray. It kind of looks like the schemes from that era.

There isn't a lot of reference pictures of the car.

I used decals from my decal stash and hand painted some of the lettering.
I started off with Hayden Profitt letters and then added in or modified the missing letters.

Very difficult paint job on that rail.  Dunno how you did so well with the lettering decals.  That would send me bonkers!

Thanks Pete.

I had to fix the broken front axle. The other side broke when I first put it together and then this side when I masked it off.
Drilled it out and braced it with a piece of wire, stronger than ever.

A few mock ups and final details on the engine. I am going to shoot another coat of Alclad on the valve covers on both cars because I have rubbed through the chrome on both sets of them

Starting to take shape.

Taking shape nicely, Mitch. Fine decal work.

Sorry to see the decal mishaps, Cole.

Not paying attention to the details, I just hit the order button and ended up getting Dan Gurney's decals from IndyCals - my bad! But their decals look great, so I placed another order for the correct ones as well as others to finish up some stalled builds I have.

Thanks guys,

I have the Hunt Bros car done and now I am finishing up Milner's car,

The front end on this thing is ridiculous, as I was putting it together I though of some poor kid in the 70s putting this kit together without super glue and all the tools we have now... I bet a lot of these got thrown away.

You have to build the spindles, put in the king pin and then with all of that you are instructed to glue it in place... why all the detail if its going to be stationary?????

I am going to reshoot the Alclad on the valve covers.

Right about the '70s and doing a chrome front end.  Slow going, delicate parts to remove chrome from in order to glue with the lousy stuff they called glue back then.  I think that was the era when they were trying to get glue so kids wouldn't sniff it.  The glue was just so slow drying and didn't "bond" at all like the early glues did.  Looks great so far, one benefit of building today!
