This one arrived this A.M. and as soon as I looked at it, the desire to build it outweighed the desire to finish the Petty Charger. (But only for the moment) So...... like a big excited kid, the Charger has been put back in it's box for now.

What's in the box?

Nice styrene wheels and equaly nice rubber tyres:

White metal chassis and other WM parts:

Various screws and bolts etc:

Dark chocolate brown seat plus HT leads:

The white metal bits are hard and will take quite a bit of time to clean up:

And finally, what looks like to be a useable set of decals:

I knew as soon as I saw it when we were talking that kit was going to head of the line!! You just can't help yourself.

You know me so well John!!!!

I cleaned up the chassis/block, cylinders and rear mounted transmission/differential. This stuff is so hard there is three hours work in this alone and it's still not all sorted.

So cooooool!  I never could get why these low volume kits used so much "white metal" when it's so flaw ridden.  It IS stronger in some ways, but makes for headaches for builders.  For the cost of these "rare" kits they charge premium prices too.  Still, they need to make adequate profits for their work too and low volume means higher prices per kit.
Thanx for starting this one so soon.  I am staring at each foto!

Chassis is painted and yes it is grey as per the 1:1.

The engine is assembled and painted and I have added the plumbing to the carbs. I also installed the very nice kit supplied intake stacks.

I thought I'd try a mock up with the body panels. They screw to the chassis, much like a die cast does, which of course is what it is derived from.

Good job I did 'cos it has some serious fit issues to overcome!!

If it's die-cast based, it must have a different "multi-piece" body than the die-cast one.  You're really racing thru this build!!!!

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I think I need it on this one!!!

Harron..... actually the body panels are the same only cast in styrene. Here is a photo of the white metal kit:

When I bought this kit, I had hoped to be able to display it with the body off, at least sometimes. However, the chassis is nowhere near the original and is only there to hang the rest of the bits on. Check out the MFH version:

I'd love to get one of those but don't like MFH prices!! £155.00 ($240)

So in light of the rear body fit, I'm simply going to do what is required to get it to fit and fix it permanently in place.

Got the front and rear suspension installed but it will need to be removed for painting:

On the upside, it does have a pretty decent set of styrene spoked wheels.

Moving fast on this one. hard to tell from the photos but it looks like the nose sits higher than the tail. Might just be these no-lines again.

Thanks both.

it looks like the nose sits higher than the tail wrote:

It's an optical illusion Buck, the stance is level just like on the 1:1.

Been working on the atrocious fit of the bodywork. I trimmed out the tail as I mentioned above and it is now much closer. When painted it will get it's final fit with the aid of glue!!

The under pan and nose fit OK but boy the bonnet is a mile out. With one side in place the other is way out and vice versa:

The rear trailing links fit OK on the right side:

but not on the right left side:

More work, oh well!!!

The nose fit reminds me of the one for the AMT Daytona Charger!! Otherwise you're trotting along at a pretty good pace. Those have to be the nicest styrene spoke wheels I've seen. Nice work all around Al.

The left trailing links are sorted too.
