Nice fab job on the shocker plate and the wiring will look good even if you won't see that much of it.

The bit that i presumed would be there ... was missing ...... lol

Couldn't find a spray that would be the correct colour, and i didn't fancy having to mask up everything to keep the colour the same the whole car through so i mixed the colour myself from acrylics and hand painted it then lacquered over.
The top part above "lotus" and the top stripe is still decal.

It'll do for me... decades in dying, finishing and graphics ... if i can't match a simple yellow it's time to give it best!!

That is a super job Colin, if I didn't know, I'd never have guessed. Top work.

Great match on the paint Colin. It looks perfect, and I would never have known.

Cheers guys

Well i had to make a couple more bits as they were missing, just simple tube slices to hold the top ball joint in place

It seems the person who tried to put this together before was (maybe) a little forceful and when i got the front suspension arms etc in place, the pressure from the springs alone was enough to snap bits .. It all popped apart and i spent 15 minutes looking for all the bits
these have now been rectified (the one i made survived ... yay!!)

The tube that tamiya provide for the brake pipes is also out of scale like the HT leads .. will replace this with some tube from Als' care package

The rear has a solid to hose to solid configuration and runs through a suspension arm tube so that'll mean making up some adapted joints and the like.

Nice one Colin.

The shocker connectors on these kits need a lot of support when pressing them into place, otherwise they can break.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with the brake hoses!

I was careful as I thought this might be the case, however they pushed on quite easily so I pressume they might have been stressed from when it was previously attempted as these bits were loose in the box

It was sitting on the shelf when it just popped apart... I swore !!!!

Right then brake plumbing .....

Made up some right angle connectors out of solder and pvc tube painted brass
Attached the solid brake line and the flexi rubber that was used at the time.

All needs a bit of a touch up and trim but the general idea is there

The solid pipe runs attached with tape along this strut

The front pipes are just a twisted wire test to see if they will look ok with braided line (it was a time of change and testing in 67/68 so either rubber or braided hose could be period parts ... i might swap for flexi rubber just due to personal taste)

Made a metal tube from some PVC hose painted gunmetal, this carries the wiring to the gearbox pump assembly.

Started replacing the HT leads from a better scale size that Al sent through, i used the original overscaled tube as a lead collar to add detail on the dizzy.

Spaghetti anyone ??

Just an update on the brake hoses and pipes ... just a few touch-ups to do.

and the HT leads are in and wired, i'm going to pop a couple of drops of black wash into the intakes to give them a little depth

It's looking great Colin.

I'm glad you went with the rubber brake hoses, the twisted wire didn't look good IMO. (BTW you can get a much tighter 'twist' if you clamp one end in a vice, wrap the other end around a drill bit and twist tightly)

The HT leads look WAY better.

It looks like you got the metal trumpets with the kit too.

BTW did you know that chrome plating was banned in 1973 because of hydrogen embrittlement?

Cheers Mike and Ash ... i'm trying.

Al the wire was only there to give me an idea what braid would look like but i went for the more authentic rubber.

I usually use my dremmel with a hook in it, the other end is attached to the nail in my bench .. but yes it gives a better twist especially for steel cables in 1/35

Yup, glad i did as the chromed ones are pants to be honest, the chroming is the thing that lets this kit down IMO

I do know ... lol ... makes sense as one by-product from electrolysis is hydrogen, i wonder if it impregnated the surface of the steel under the plating ???? ... i'll have to look that up

Hi Colin,

This is looking super, super sweet Sir, love the close up's...

May I ask a small question please, on the third photo down it shows the rear brake pipe, is it just the angle of the photo or is the pipe touching the half shaft and the coil spring, if it is touching would it not foul...

Andy...

Yes it is and yes it would Andy

It just wouldn't sit away from the spring, I have a plan to make small brackets to attach both sides to the leg or something.

I have a few things to fettle about with before I can call it done.

On the upside .... I got the wheels on tonight !!!

Cheers for the comments
