Awesome detail Colin. You are doing a first rate job here. That dash is stunning.

I also agree that making ones detail parts is very rewarding!

Thanks Pete and Al

Just realised (total brain-f*rt) that because i'm doing this without driver .... you would be able to see into the foot well and see the pedals, the kits cockpit is stepped up because of the battery box (for motorising it i presume) .... so that had to go ... also had to blank off the end of the battery area with styrene....

Should have thought of this before painting and detailing the cockpit all up .... learning curve i suppose.

Hi Colin,

I think we've all been in that situation and I pretty sure you'll overcome it and sort it out in just a few seconds Sir...

Recovery has happened

Going for the four pedal assembly designed in 67 .... used by Jim Clark in 68 as he was a big fan of left foot braking (is there any other kind???)

These are the components ...

I agree. Great save.

What is this play foam stuff Colin?.... got a photo of the packaging/brand name??

Pedals made from tablet packaging?

I used to left foot brake my rally cars to get them sideways pre-corner.

When I took a desert off-road racing class in Reno, NV, the only foot the instructor wanted to see on the brake was the left. It was an auto trans with a floor mounted tee handle shifter.

It is really a blast to drive that way, and like Al said, you can really get the rear end to hang out there for the dirt track turns!! FUN, FUN!!

You can find this in most craft shops ... i bought an unbranded pack of 20 A4 sheets for £1 from a UK discount... Hobby craft sell it for 50p per sheet but have a wider selection of colours...
"A4 foam sheets" brings up a plethora of options in google.

Looks like this, the close up is referenced to a std cocktail stick for thickness.

Yes Al, its the "pimpled" packaging from medication bubble packs ... looks like chequer plate when given a matt black wash ... i've used it here just to add a little detail for what little you will see of the foot pedals when they're in situ.

And reference left foot braking ... it's a habit hard to get out of after time spent on the track and i still drive this way on the streets ... have to drive in thin, flat bottomed deck shoes to so i can feel the pedals properly .. would prefer to (and often do on long journeys) drive barefoot in all honesty.

cheers chaps

Got the body mounted to the motor ... looks straight and things fit where they should do so i'm doing something right

Not saying the decals are delicate but i just blew on this lightly to displace a drop of water .... got no idea how they're supposed to be able to withstand being moulded round and into the nosecone

Letting it dry and i'll try and mask this nose area off and do it with paint .....

That can be a problem with old decals Coiln, they can go brittle. You have the skills to mask and spray though.

BTW, your care package contaims some correct 1:12 scale plug lead material so if it's not to late, you might want to pull out the oversized Tamiya tubing!

Masking and spraying looks like the way forward now mate ...

I've glued the HT leads in but i can always snip them off and drill, paint and fit again if it'll look right ... these scale out about 18mm but don't look too bad on the kit ... slightly thinner would be better though.... thanks for popping some in the package.
yours went in the post today 1st class ... pos Sat then.

Judging by every thing I saw a the Indy museum, 11 or 10 mm was the size of all plugwire leads unless they had a double insulation.

I noticed right off that they looked too thick. With the quality of your work it makes sense to replace them with a more appropriate scale thickness wire.

Do you have any Champs or MicroSol? That might help make the decals work.

That's what I did with my 1:12 Brabham BT44 Colin. While I was on I cut out the plugs, made and fitted some tiny discs to represent the plug boot tops.

See photo 16

Will be sorting the plug leads out in the next few days thanks to Al's care package.

As i said in the first post, this was a pre started kit and i found a bit missing, it's the front suspension top spring plate and shaft.

Had to manufacture one .. (left)

The cockpit panel rear side "can just" be seen when the cowlings on so that needed a bit of detailing, i counted the wires from numerous reference pictures and averaged the amount and stuck then in as and how into some styrene "sleeves"

Nice wiring, Colin. The top spring plate looks perfect - what did you use?

Thanks mike

Thin Styrene rod for the shaft, some slices of styrene rod sanded down to discs for the stepped plate, and a slice of styrene tube with a notch cut out for the bracket/kit attaching ring
