PostSubject: 1964 GTO Road Racer   Mon 14 Sep 2015, 11:17 pm

I started this build a very long time ago. I tried to make one mod to the front fender and realized that what I wanted to accomplish with build was above my pay grade of talent so back into the box it went. Fast forward a few years and after learning a bunch of stuff from guys like Al and the rest of you I think I am going have another go at it.

I am not going to make an exact replica just use the picture as inspiration.

I start up again by making the hood scoops like the picture. I used some sheet polystyrene and make some notches for the tabs and then blended it all in.

I am using the wheels and tires from the Tamiya Porsche GT2 race car. I am going to make use of the McPherson strut front end and mount it to the inner fender wells and then reinforce it with tube styrene.

I have started working on the rest of the wheel flares as well.

I cut out the back seat and blended in the rear section of the interior tub from the Revell Nova kit.

Now that is one SERIOUS 64 GTO Mitch. I love it.

Nice work on the scoops and you have a flying start on the wheel arch bulges too.

Don't forget, you are going to need a cross brace for your McPherson strut conversion!!

Hi S R,

Nice work so far Sir, not sure how many photos you have of this car, so did a quick Google and found a few others for you, it looks like a beast of a motor too...: - Google Images

I have the basic body work completed and now just need to do some final sanding and clean up.
I have started to scratch together the front suspension and the rest of chassis.

Here is the paint I am going to use. I will probably do a base coat of Duplicolor silver first.

Worked out the rear suspension
Made a cage
And worked on the engine. I used the Pontiac heads and tri-power carb set up just for grins.

Thanks guys.

I sprayed some color on some of the parts last night and hit the interior bucket with some clear.

I have a bit more sanding to do on the body before it gets its final coat of color.

I have decided to use a wing instead of a flat spoiler like the real car. I have taken artistic license on several other details as well... so...

Artistic licence is the best thing ever invented mate .... if it didn't exist then we'd all do the same thing and the hobby would be tedious, boring and repetitive

Couldn't agree more Colin.

Nice work Mitch, the cage looks terrific.

Thanks again for the interest friends,

Got the second colors on some of the parts and got the body and engine painted.
I need to color sand the body and shoot some more clear before I polish it.
