The rat rod phenom was once authentic oldies with tires, engines, etc. that belonged together.  As it grew it evolved into "phoney" not
Sitting insanely low whether running or at rest, they just look all wrong.  Paint jobs are often treated to look even rattier, sometimes ugly obvious welds are added.  it's like especially ugly tattoos, fashionable for being so outlandish.  There was a "modern rat rod" Y.T. I liked.  Sometimes lowered, usually dk. grey or flat black paint, red wheels with white wall tires.  That look I like, tho they're not so ratty.  Just my view.
