PostSubject: Windows 10   Sun 23 Aug 2015, 9:17 pm

was wondering if any body else has put in the Windows 10 Upgrade ??

I installed it Wednesday and after figuring out the error code ( c1900101-2000c ) which is the hard drive overheating and locking up ( used a fan blowing on the case to keep it cool ) I installed it again and no problem or issues so far. Went right in with all the programs from Win 7 working normal and all the settings just like they where on Win 7 so no changing them

If any body else has then what do you think of Windows 10 ??

So far I like it

I won't be, the main reason for me is that when you agree to the EULA, they install a key stroke logger on you device of choice. There are a lot of other privacy & security concerns (lack of) as well.

I'll stick with 7, it works just fine. Tried Win 8 and hated it.

I 'upgraded' my laptop from Windows 8 to 10. Don't like it. I'm going back to 8.
I prefer 7 too, but I've gotten used to 8, now that I've deleted all the stupid, useless apps.

Good luck.
I had to change from XP. was told that 7 was better than 8. My printer lost half of it's function (won't copy to files) Windows 7 wouldn't take my Adobe Photoshop. Picasa baffles me.
I don't like change !!! as Skid says, " If it ain't broke, don't fix it !

Everything is the way I like it on this s-l-o-w aging laptop with 7.  I bought a cheap tablet with 8 and haven't used it much.  It would be hard to get it set up like this.  I mostly wonder if going to Windows 10 on this old one would improve speed.  I've asked and the answer is no.  Guess I'll stick with this one as I try to do more with the tablet.  Security issues, it's funny we tend to trust businesses with trailing our surfing but fear government that's so inefficient and out of its depth.  Go figure.

I've just ordered a new/old laptop with Windows 8.1 My Vista based laptop has just gotten bogged down too much lately. For surfing for reference material, I still use an old XP based desktop that I refuse to allow updates to be applied. It works much faster than the laptop.

I will wait until I have to buy a new computer and then will buy whatever is around. My wife runs Vista and it looked like we would need a new computer, but it ended up being Internet Explorer issues which is baked into the OS and couldn't be upgraded (or at least I couldn't figure it out). Switched her to Chrome and its as if she has a new zippy unit. I'm on 7 and will stay there until the laptop fries. Might be sooner than I hope as I think the fan has died and it gets pretty hot.

BTW, there is software one can download with windows 8 & 8.1 that puts the full  Windows 7 screen on.  Windows 10 is a combo of 8 and elements of 7.  Actually the 8.1 tablet I got isn't terrible to use, but the need for touchscreen stylus in a small 7" format is an eyesight challenge.  With falling prices for laptops, half the price of ones from 4 yrs ago for the same storage and greater speed, make them tempting. The explosion of larger tablets has made laptops a bit dated and they will be phased out over time. Bargains in laptops and desktops are around.

I changed to 10. I think I am getting used to it. Like anything, change take a bit. I like the new Edge browser. Its actually faster than Chrome, at least for me. I like that the tiles are all on the same screen, not on some other screen. Getting used to it.

Got my new laptop with 8.1 and it takes some getting used to. But it is like lightening compared to the old Vista laptop. Found how to boot into the desktop instead of the Start Screen which is much better.

Yep, the desktop option is there as well as in Windows 10.  If one is familiar with doing a lot with a computer, the changes can be overcome.  10 is supposed to be even a bit more friendly, as reviews on the web have claimed.  Glad you're starting with a brand new one.

I've now been using it for 2 weeks. It's buggy as heck. I woudl caution anyone upgrading until they have some hot fixes out to fix the insatiability. It;s buggy..

I replaced both our computers recently; one Vista, the other 7.  Both computers were old so the new computers are lightning fast compared to the old ones.  I'm getting used to the interface, but it hasn't been that tough to get used to.

Issues I've had:  I use Norton Identity Manager which isn't supported in the Edge browser so have moved over to Chrome.  The included email app doesn't seem to update properly when using Gmail as your server (found this reported in various forums so it wasn't just me) so installed Windows Mail from Windows Essential 2012 package.  Since then no problems with the email after that.

Things that have been great:  The calendar app with 10 connects seamlessly with my Google calendar so for the first time my calendar is the same on both my & wifes' iPhones, iPads, and computers.  10 also syncs our address books between both computers, but haven't figured out if it is possible to link it to the iPhone & iPad.  The backup program now runs more often.  I picked the default to backup every 1 hour and have noticed no impact upon my system.

As an aside, one computer came with Windows 8.1 and was supposed to be upgraded before I picked it up from the store.  They forgot do it and I spent several hours trying to get it to look like the other computer running 10 before I actually checked the OS version.  I then upgraded and it took a while but was completely painless (I got it started and then went off to bed and when I got up in the morning it was done).

If you've used Vista or 7 the interface is pretty easy to adapt to.  It allows more personalization than 7.  I'm not sure that I would upgrade an old computer to it, but if you have a new computer and qualify for the free upgrade I think you should consider it.

I'm happy with the change.

Gary, I asked my wife if she wanted to go to Macs since we were upgrading both computers and she didn't want to deal with the learning curve, without regard to the 50 to 100% higher cost. I used a Mac at work until Apple changed to OS X and I found I had to essentially learn all over so moved to Windows.

LOL Andy, Dave
We are in the minority and no mistake, however I love my macs and run windows seven as a boot camped hard drive on my mac book pro, so in a way I have the best of both worlds. Each to his own of course, but I would never climb over a mac to get to a PC. I find mac's more intuitive.
I am going to look at an Alienware PC for flight sims and running a simulator for RC helicopters. Ive just bought one and stuffed it into my fence at about a hundred miles per hour!!! not LOL

Well after turning on my PC one morning recently, I was surprised to find Win 10 installed. Now I never registered for the upgrade, and had always had updates set to manual. After some research found that it has happened to many people, most of whom had no back ups. Luckily I had done an Image backup a week earlier, so restored back to Win 7. Have now disabled all updates, and will rarely use this box for internet.

Have now built a new box running Linux Mint. No more Micro Shaft surprises for me.
