PostSubject: B-58 Hustler   Fri 31 Jul 2015, 4:17 am

I need a slump buster, nothing is going good on the car builds I have going so I thought maybe an aircraft would turn it around

Monograms B-58 Hustler, looks like a nice kit with not much flash.
Box art

parts count

By the box art this is a proto type of the Hustler, here is a pict. of a 1:1 in proto type paint

I'll be doing the proto type like in the pict. above.
I think the main paint is white with day-glow red, that what it looks like to me.

Got some parts cleaned and assembled, Engines, wing, weapons pod and got the int painted. they have 3 figures for inside the body but I don't think I'm going to use them, maybe the front cockpit one ??

Well that's all for right now, will up date soon and thanks for looking

Up date time, put the nose weight in, might have went over board with it cause it's got 1oz in it

didn't put the pilot in cause didn't have roam with the weight in and wouldn't be able to see him any way. Put the 3 hatches on in the closed position and the button for the weapons pod release which is not going to work and glued the fuselage together and glued the wing on

their is a big gap between the fuselage and the wing that needs filled

so I got that done, needs to dry and then sand to see what it looks like

got the wheels painted aluminum

and the landing gear struts painted silver chrome and when they dry I'll put the white on where it should go

If I can get the tires paint later with them looking good I'll be lucky ( I'm quitting smoking and shake like a loose vibrator )

Thanks for looking and comments are always welcome

Your not kidding about the large space between the wing and fuselage. This was the aircraft that bombed Moscow in the movie 'Failsafe'. Look forward to seeing how this one turns out!

Huge gap to work with, I am sure you will have it squared away in no time. I am not familiar with the Aircraft genre of modeling so I would like to ask, why the weight in the nose of it?

Buck, the weight is added so the aircraft will sit on all three landing gear instead of the main gear and the tail section with the nose gear in the air

Thanks for the nice comments guys, they help keep me going

Been working on this when I get a chance, got the filler sanded and had to put another light coat to get it looking right when I got that sanded and smooth Fired up the air brush and put the white on the wings an fuselage

and also put 1 coat of clear on. Going to let that dry for a couple of days and paint the engines and weapons pod just have to figure out how to hold them for spraying, have a few ideas on that.

Well that's it for right now, will up date when I get more done

Lookin' good John. I just started on the 1/48 version of the plane. It is quite large. Fortunately I haven't had the gaps to deal with that you have. I plan on doing mine in Vietnam era camo.

Got a little more done on this, after painting the white I couldn't see the lines where the red was to go so I just winged it with my fuzzie eye balls, not perfect but it will do for how
Put the landing gear and the weapons pod on and painted the wheel wells

and it even sits level

need to finish up the engine pods, paint the tires, paint the anti-glare panel on the front, decals and put it together and see if it flies

I do have another one of these kits so this might be a practice run, build the other one like this only better and then re do this one into a different B-58

Unusual paint scheme.  For that much wing area I liked a more metal look, seems to fit with that macho era.  Good luck with the decals.

Harron68, if you look at the picture that I'm working off of which is the B58 Prototype Demo scheme before the Air Force bought them other than this one they where all air frame silver

I figured the paint wasn't standard air force design, either early or later, maybe for air shows.  The one pictured has metal showing and affords the chances to vary the metallic look.  In earlier days one had to live with less than perfect paints, then came products like "rub 'n' buff" and now there are metalizer looks.  That and when some folks accentuate panel lines, a model can look totally real.  Thanx again for a job on one of the forgotten weapons of the past.
