PostSubject: Admiral Scheer   Thu 02 Jul 2015, 3:10 am

I still have a ship to finish in the Ship Community Build but I have put it away until a new line of paints from Lifecolor come to Australia. This model from Fujimi is an old kit, but it should be a quick build and fun. I am going to modify it to a mid-war configuration so I will be adding parts from my spares box and scratchbuilding a cap for the funnel. The Admiral Scheer is a 1/700 scale kit of the German pocket battleship.

There is a gap where the two parts of the deck meet. I glued some card underneath the gap and then filled it with putty.

I dropped a small part and spent 5 minutes on my hands and knees looking for it. I eventually found it on top of Eddie, my schnauzer whose favourite place in my man cave is under the bench. He watched me looking and cursing while wearing my part. He said nothing. Mans best friend, I think not.

Tiny part eh?

He's a good listener but he never tells me anything except 'it's dinner time!'

Breaking news in the Sydney Morning Herald!!

'Eddie the Schnauzer, saves a German pocket battleship from the carpet monster'..... "he's a good listener", quotes his owner, "but always hungry"

That's class Chris!!

Change of strategy. This one is going to be another quicky. Did some research and realised that to do a later war version will require lots more extra parts. This is an old kit and not really worth all that extra effort.......and so many more to build.

I will consult with my furry mate Eddie. He's a German Schnauzer, he'll know what to do with a Nazi ship.

Chris: You have Eddie. I have SWMBO. If I lose something to the carpet monster and can't find it, I call her. She usually finds the missing part within two to three minutes. Go figure!

Here is an update. Most of the painting is done and soon I will use some oils on the decks. I did some reading and found out that this ship is now landfill underneath a carpark in Germany.

Nice one Chris.

I wonder why they used her for landfil rather than re-claim the steel?

My guess on landfill is that there was plenty of "scrap" metal around all over Europe!  I just wonder how the term pocket battleship came about?!

I wonder if people think about all the unexploded ammunition underneath their BMWs. The ship got bombed and rolled over and its still there.

I think its because it was a small ship with the guns of a battleship. I think you are probably right about all the scrap metal.
