so heres my entry for the GB

had this in the stash for a very very long time, i can remember buying it on ebay when i got back into modelmaking so it must have been 2007 or 2008, often thought of doing it but chickened out to do something else but its time has come lol

its certainly the largest AFV kit ive attempted

done my old trick of making a hole and gluing in a nut,,,,i have a threaded rod which then screws thro the bottom of the hull giving me a 'handle'

ive also bonded in a few large heavy nuts. this will add some mass to the whole thing. ive done it before and it helps to make it sit on the tracks a bit better, and makes it feel a bit more substansial if you pick it up

and heres the real deal......plan is to make a simple sand covered base for it all some how
seems they started out in a green colour, often overpainted in a sandy colour.....ive seen pics of some extremely weathered ones where the sand paint is worn away but thats way beyond my abilities, so its going to be a sandy one lol

Like Paul, I have been itching to start this one.

This is what I will be building.....

....towing this....

.... probably on a simple base.

I saw this one at a recent model show and just new right off I had to build it. Paul's photo, not mine:

I would have likied to do it in North Africa colours but although the Long Tom was used there, the tractor was not. So it's going to represent the combo as used in Korea.

Will probably get started tomorrow.

I know it's another Airfix and i'm gonna probably moan about fit and flash but it looks a real cool kit !!!

Well this Airfix kit doesn't disappoint .... i mean that in a negative way

Every bit i've cut off the sprue has been like this

This is the outside (on show) side complet with sinkholes, embossed number and extrusion marks ....

And this is the inside (hidden) which is completely perfect....

GO FIGURE !!!!

Lots of filling and sanding to be done!!

After filing and sanding relevant bits i've arrived here.
There may not be too much of a problem as a lot of the holes/raised areas will be covered with the external wooden planking i intend to add. (definitely not using the optional cardboard stuff provided by the manufacturer ... it's a bit tacky)

Both main body bits built up

And together to check fit

Gave the interior a bit of detailing although the only way you'll see it is iff you look through the slot windows that will be left or through the back access door

I intend to paint it up as an airfield version and not as an "in the field" version so will be airfield grey instead of dark green.

its basically together, all the greeblies are attached, the bustle was an absolute pain!not as neat as i would have liked but its the best its going to be. it will get filled with cans and boxes and stuff anyway

next will be some paint, and im not sure what im going to do, need to go and do some more research....................or looking at pics of tanks on the net as swmbo calls it lol

Looks good Paul.....

I have top and bottom together and painted

Got the top seats painted in a wood grain (ish) and the metal supports attached

Now the real bus had the lower deck windows and the top deck side panel openings boarded and canvassed off like this....

I'm going to make it so a few of the lower window boards are hinged and dropped down ... that way you'll still be able to see the detail inside

Better than the airfix cardboard efforts they give you

And i REALLY want to get another and do this to it.
