PostSubject: Re: 200mm WWI British infantry.   Wed 22 Jul 2015, 3:18 pm

Been doing a bit of work on his satchel, which I decided to do in brown leather to contrast the other bags which will be canvas. I have used MA flat brown for the base colour, MA flat tan as highlight and MC German came black brown (the colour used as the uniform shadow), as shadow.

Started by a base coat of flat brown highlighted roughly with flat tan.

Blending with intermediate shades of the shadow and base colours.

Shadows put in.

Blending with transparent layers of MA flat brown mixed 50/50 with glaze medium. and outlining of the bag flap and fastening studs with the shadow colour.

Further blending as above

Cheers Ash, they seem really good and buff quite well. As good as any metalic paint I've used.

Done the shoulder tiles. I originally wanted to do these in brass etch, primarily for the finish so I wouldn't have to paint them LOL. I couldn't find any at 2mm with ampersands and having attempted to make an ampersand from a number eight (which looked crap), I decided to go with 2mm plastic letters.
Now Ill have to paint them DOH!!

If anyone can advise what Im doing wrong with my pictures I would be grateful. They seen to be going in sideways and Im getting a crick in my neck LOL.

I used the "Edit" Function to look at your posts and don't see any reason for them to be sideways. I wonder if it could have something to do with size? That is merely a guess on my part. I will try to come up with an answer.

This is looking terrific Gary.

I think I see the solution to your photo problem. Your early photos in this thread were taken in landscape mode while the ones you are having problems with are in portrait mode. I think the site defaults to portrait mode. i.e the longest edge to top and bottom.

Taken in landsacpe mode and posted:

So methinks you either need to take photos in landscape mode OR rotate 90 degrees before posting.

A little more progress, completed the assembled uniform tunic and trousers (possibly more blending required).

Coloured in the new shoulder tile with AK Ineractive True Metal gold, assembled the backpack and shovel.

Blocked in the backpack with our original canvas base colour, blocked in the handle and blue of the shovel with MA burnt umber and true metal aluminium. Began weathering the handle where he would hold it with a dry brushing of MA sand and applying some mud to the blade with Vallejo European mud wash. When this is dry Im going to build up the mud lightly with a pigment to give it a little more texture.
