PostSubject: Ideas for Truck paint scheme   Wed 27 May 2015, 6:22 pm

I am looking at doing another big rig. I did a 1/25 Revell Peterbuilt  359
tractor a couple years ago, orange with black fenders and decaled it
for RDT, Red Devil Trucking, a fictional trucking firm I invented, I think.
I am looking at a Revell 1/25 Kenworth W900. Thinking a reverse scheme
maybe? Black with orange fenders, RDT of course!---John

It's hard to say, without seeing it.

Google images of real trucks for ideas.  All I can say is dark colors tend to make things less noticeable.  If you want to have a "unified image" despite an element like the sleeper behind, dark is fine.  If you want all the segments, fenders, body, sleeper  to each stand out, bright is best.
If you're adding decals (stripes, company logo, or custom stuff like pinstriping) color choice is affected.  Have confidence in whatever choice u make.  In real vehicles, I've seen some 2-tones I wouldn't choose, but company colors control truck paint.  Really, go with what you like. That's what matters most.

John, just remember that if the overall truck color is very dark, the decals must be very light colors or white. And they need to be pretty opaque to stand out and not have the base color come through.

Thanks, that's what I am worried about. If I paint it black for the cab the
black silhouette of the devil won't show, but I think the flames would show
better on black. Maybe I will just "invent" another fictional trucking firm.
What's a common color for the interior outside of tan or beige?---John

John, when I worked in Engineering at Daimler Trucks (Freightliner and Western Star brands), we offered the interiors in various colors. These were the upholstered panels and seats, with black rubber floor mats or color coordinated carpets. The "hard plastic" pieces in the cab and sleeper were either a slate gray or beige, depending on the customer selected upholstery color.

Most of the dash panels were wood grain. There was a black standard color, but almost no one ordered this, except for trucks ordered for state DOT use! Hope this helps.

John, if the yellow flames will work then how about you outline them in the same color yellow and no fill which would let the black show through on the door?

Slate gray, sounds interesting, anything but black, I have done too
many cars with black, it's getting old. Flames outlined, creative, have to
look into these ideas, thanks.---John
