PostSubject: E13A1 Japanese Jake float plane WWII   Fri 13 Mar 2015, 3:50 pm

First off thanks for the help finding information on this plane. The information was invaluable.
I got a pretty good start, I have the engine done, painted and installed as is the interior and
crew. I am going with the overall light gray, gray green actually, scheme from the Battle of
Midway, a scout plane off the IJN cruiser Tone. I don't have the catapult to display it on so
I am at odds, I may weight the floats so it sets level or try to make a stand simulating water.
I have never done that so my options are open. So far here's where I am at.---John

Here is the color I am using. It is a 1/48 Tamiya A6M2b of Saburo Sakai, a Japanese
ace I did a few years back.---John

I have the cowl on, not the best engineering with 3 pieces and lots of seams
to putty and sand. I also drilled the 8 holes in the bottom wing-fuselage assembly
for the support wires that connect to the floats.---John

Great choice of plane John. I've been building little 1/700 versions for years and sticking them on Japanese cruisers.

Thanks. I have the wings and floats on. Now to let it all set up then
see if it will sit level on the floats. I didn't weight the floats or the nose
so I have no idea whats going to happen. If it does tail sit I will be searching
for ways to build a base simulating water to glue it to.---John

Not a lot done. I sanded it and put it on it's feet, leans back a bit but not a true tail sitter.
I will probably build a "water diorama" for it. It is very flimsy, the only thing holding it up
are those 4 flimsy struts, one already broke twice and I just re super glued it.---John

Been missing this one but it's looking good. You don't see to many floatplanes built. Nice one.

Almost went in the bin today. I went to a site and the plane I want to do
needs the antennas cut off the wing and the holes filled in the rear fuselage.
Then I went to add the canopy and the pilots heads held the canopy up. I
adjusted one seat then the other crew member held it up. I couldn't cut enough
off without cutting torsos, then they would sit too low looking like they were
slouching. Soooooooo I extracated them, dug out the Aichi interior color and touched
up the empty seats. It's a good thing my favorite subject is WWII Japanese aircraft or
this definitely would be in the bin!---John
