PostSubject: Revell 1965 Chevy Stepside pickup.   Wed 04 Feb 2015, 1:56 pm

Received from our great leader a few weeks ago, and hopefully will get me back into the swing of things.

Lots of parts, some custom alternatives to choose from too.

Got a freaky paint job i'd like to attempt with this.

I've been looking at this one at Hobby Lobby for some time. I'll be watching to see what it's like.

Looks like a fairly detailed kit with all those parts. I will be watching.

Ok so (not exactly following the step by step in the destructions) the truck cab went fine in paint, ending up like this

the bed, however, ended up like this ......

then this morning after a good clean and respray it looked like this. (the floor is made from stained lollypop sticks and painted balsa lengths)

and all together

Wow, that is really unique, Colin. Unique and well done. How did you maintain the pattern so uniformly?

Good job.

thanks Buck.

Got the interior done, didn't spend too long on it as it won't easily be seen.

Still .... tried to do an eyecatching job on it to compliment the exterior.

Most unusual paint scheme. Drywall "tape," I suspected some sort of fiberglass screening with spray adhesive to hold it in place. Dunno about stripes and checks. Maybe some sports jerseys have them? I've seen a few unique combos. Wish you a speedy completion!

Hey now that is different Colin. I like it.

Years ago, we used to do clear lexan slot car bodies like that. Only we used old net curtain as a mask.

Yes Al, I had some clear bodies for my riko (rico?) kits and I remember using fishnet stockings as a mask on one, didnt turn out brilliant though lol.

well insomnia has a plus side .....

Got the wheels done, went with a retro look to them...........

............but added a bit of colour to blend them in with the bodywork.

The radiator assembly is simple but effective

The dizzy was too fiddly to drill for leads so i cut the top of the kit piece and made a top of my own.

got the motor assembled and painted, wired up as much as pos for the moment.

Motor in and wheels on !!!

Brake /clutch fluid Andy, does the job nicely. Found the cheaper stuff is a bit more aggressive than the rest though and "can" affect the surface of the plastic making it a bit resilient to taking further paint.

Thanks for the comment :-)

It's looking great Colin and like Buck said, the Baby Moons really set them off.

That's interesting 'cos I use the cheapest I can find too and never had any problems with 'agression' or re-painting. Maybe it's brand dependant.

Al,  I left a part in the stuff for a couple of days,  cleaned it thoroughly,  and when I went to respray it the paint seemed to just soak in the surface yet took ages to dry.
Almost like the fluid had made the surface permeable
Must have been a one off.
