It's looking good John. If you have an airbrush I would recommend a Gunze brand white rather than the Tamiya one which is difficult to use if you need to use it with a paint brush at any stage, touching up etc. As the other guys said, mix it with some black to 'scale it'.

Hope the paint(s) cover the metal well.  Sometimes metal can be fussy.  Best o' luck!

I masked, painted airframe white, unmasked and did some touch up.
I still need to paint the nose, window framing and mask and paint the
orange on the wings and tail.---John

Speaking of decals where can I get solid color decal sheets? I want to cut
shapes out, triangular and rectangular for the areas on the wings and tail
that are suppose to be painted orange. I want to save time and masking
tape by decaling. Do single color sheets cut pretty good? Use sharp X-Acto
or Ice Scissors? I have the black area behind the jet exhausts on the wing
bottoms painted.---John

Good question on the decal sheets. never heard oif them but they might exist. If not could it be done with tape? I see Duct Tape in a bunch of colors at Walmart.

It coming along nicely John,
I can onky suggest thin coloured tape cut to shape for the decals, its the way id go most likely.

Microscale make solid color decal sheets, primarily used on model trains.
Have dayglo orange.---John

Rather than fussing with and trying to get decals to settle down on surfaces, I'd rather mask and spray paint if possible.  Seems less effort and repainting is easier than re-doing decals that may fail.  Decals are pretty limited in colors too. Just a thought.

Not contours , all flat surfaces. It is much harder to get masking tape
to settle down and not have paint run under masks. I much prefer decals
to masking and spraying, no fuss no mess, no airbrush to clean, no paint
bottles to spill, no worry about spitting or splattering or the wrong air pressure
and no ridge from build up of paint thickness. Just so simple to me and they have
the EXACT color I need, dayglo orange.---John

The kit decals were old. They broke into small pieces when they hit the water. I
think I have found replacements for them, a fellow modeller on another site has the
decals for the Minicraft 1/144 C-130 USCG and is not using them. The only draw back
is the Minicraft decals are more red than orange like they should be. The good part is
they have all the decals necessary for the wings, tail and fuselage. Absolutely NO masking
or painting required. Hopefully I will have this finished by the end of the month. I just finished
cutting paper clips for prop shafts and have done a "test fit". All looks good so far.---John

If one can get decals in the right color (or print them yourself), that's fine.  Old delicate decals can be saved with a clear coat of (IS IT CLEAR LACQUER?).  Must be on the web somewhere.  As to masking, I think it's a skill too.  The right tape matters and I think somebody suggested automotive masking tape.  It's way more than needed and pricey, but a roll last a long time.  Propellers help give character to the plane.  More decals will take away some of the bland look it still has.

Donor decals from Minicraft are in. I have it better than 1/2 done. Once
I finish decals I can touch up paint, make antenna wires, and add props.
It should be finished early next week.---John
