I thought things were going a bit to easy.

I assembled and installed the front frame to the chassis.......

....fair enough, looks decent. The four shock system won't fit where it should due to my mods on the suspension to get the wider rims and tyres under the arches. They don't look right where they are but it may be the lesser of two evils..... where they are now or leave them out.

HOWEVER..... with the rear end in.......

..... the front end won't fit:

And with the front end in.....

..... the rear end won't fit:

Oh Joy of Joys!!!..... looks like I'm going to have to narrow the rear end some!!!

The kit supplied window netting is predictably, horrendous, so it was replaced with a bit of mesh I got from Fred's Resin Workshop some years ago. It's a fibrous material and when soaked in water, conforms to the body shape. It will of course be sprayed black before final instalation.

Oh! and and some good news: I found the oil cooler and transmission cooler. They were both hiding on the chrome sprue. Should have known that all early seventies NASCAR cars had full chromed coolers!!!! LOL

Another monster in the making

Really nice colour choice Al and shame about the jigsaw puzzle you ended up with instead of the model it should be but you definitely have the skills to sort it out though.

I added some 'edging' to the net. Now it's ready to install after the decals are applied.

The chrome helps the air move through the coolers better. Aids in cooling. Really is looking good, Al. I am thinking at least second row of the shelf.

Thanks guys.

Love the chrome suggestion Buck!!! Total BS but I like it!!

One of the headers had to have serious surgery to get it to fit in. However, the missing bits are almost impossible to see once installed. (???? LOL)

I couldn't leave the kit seat belts without rear anchorage points and didn' want to get involved with P/E or scratching them, so I just added extensions using painted Tamiya tape.

The distributor was missing from the kit and I don't have a spare. So I mmade one from a metal bootlace ferrule. It's pretty naff but it will do for this one. Also the kit didn't supply a coil so I used one from the spares box. Left out the NASCAR air filter so you can see the carp and coil.

Installed the oil coolers but not plumbed. (No time)

This is as far as the chassis goes.

Thanks Shay.

With the gasswork missing in the kit, I made up my own from OHP sheet Then confonted my Nemesis.... BMF.

Finaly for tonight, I applied the large decals. Even with lots of water, the big roof number broke into five pieces while sliding into place!!!!!

Very nice decal work. I hate it when the decal breaks into several pieces and you have to try to put it back together. You did a mastrerful job of it.

I agree with Buck, great job on salvaging broken decals. I also hate it when this happens. Also the BMF looks great. I'm with you Al, as BMF has not ben easy for me either!

Apart from a few very minor flaws in the roof decal, which would be expected if it decided to disintegrate, it all looks very smart indeed Al.

Thanks Clay and Andy.

On to the contigeny decals. Here again some broke up!!

My normal decal MO, is to apply one on one side, then the same decal on the other side. I find this the best way to get every thing nicely lined up. However, these things were troublesome here to. Despite removing all the water and smoothing down well, several kept moving on one side, when applying the next decal on the other!!!

Anyway, after much blood sweat and tears, they are on.

The contincencies are almost certainly not correctly placed as the decal placement guide that came with the decals is just about useless:

To make matters worse, Hoss Ellington (The race team) switched from Ford to Chevy part way through the season and ran a Chevy Monte Carlo..... which the decal sheet covers, causing further confusion. According to the placement sheet, there are no contigencies on the Torino!!!!

This is the only photo I can find of the 1:1 so I just kept adding decals until there was none left.!! LOL

Looks great time Al! Without any contingency decals, it is not a NASCAR.

My thoughts exactly.

Talk about an Eleventh Hour disaster.

Everthing finished, even the bench cleaned. Just had the chassis to marry to the body one last time and...............

As most of you know, I never clear coat over my decals for two already covered reasons BUT in over 100 completed racecars, covered in decals, I have NEVER had this happen!!! They have so little adhesion.

I wish I could remember who the AM maker was, so I could avoid them in the future!!!
