Sweet. Body parts look good. It is always exciting to get one in Primer. Seems to change the whole build.

Thanks guys!

I went from excited to a apprehensive about the paint job when I relaized I hadn't tried my airbrush since it came back from Iwata to be fixed.  So I put my big boy pants on, took a few deep breaths and tried it on a spare body.

A light coat of Tamiya XF-7 and it looks like we're a go!

So with that success in my back pocket I moved on to the frame.

I gave the airbrush a cleaning and I will try it again with decanted Tamiya paint before moving on to the body parts.  I'm still exercising caution on this.

Thanks for checking it out!

Looks great to me too.  Don't know if you are interested in pearl paints but if so you could spray a clear pearl over the orange and it would look killer.  Tamiya makes one, but I really like the Mod Podge version.  It is over scale for modeling but it actually makes a pop on a custom.  It is also way cheaper. The Mod Podge does shift the color so if you use too much you will end up with a completely different color. For example the yellow below will turn gold with enough MP on it. It also doesn't work well with dark colors.

Left - Krylon Real Orange, Right - Mod Podge Pearl over Real Orange (these aren't cleared so they look fuzzy)

From Left - Tamiya Pearl, Base color, Mod Podge Pearl

This car is Mod Podge Pearlized Glaze over Krylon Lilac

Thanks guys!

Dave that was just the guinea pig body i used for testing from the other kit. The truck will not be that colour and I tested a part with the darker primer and it affects the colour more than I expected so I have to prime over with a lighter primer to get the hue I actually want.

I don't recall seeing Mod Podge on this side of the border but never actively looked. It sounds like an interesting pearl clear to experiment with...maybe on the hot rod I put away.

Just did a google search on Mod Podge Pearlized Acrylic Sealer and Michael's Canada says they carry it but there web site is down for service right now so I can't check for sure. If you have one near you and you use the 40-50% coupon you can get for really cheap.

I managed to get a base coat on the body parts and before putting on a wet coat I had a few parts to paint for the chassis assembly. Well the damn airbrush decided to fail on me again. Nothing is coming out!! Took it apart and all is clean and looks functional except for the cup which I had paint in. After using it three times successfully I thought all systems were go but apparently not.

I guess I will have to paint the body straight from the can after I decanted everything for the airbrush and will be going back to my Paasch H for the smaller parts.

Between low motivation and working through my airbrush issues which are definitely tied together time goes by and little progress happens but I finally have enough for a worthwhile update.

After an A/B explosion I found a tiny rubber chunk and suspected it was a broken seal so I took the airbrush apart and looked for the rest but all the seals we intact.  Perhaps this is the cause of my airbrush malfunction.

I proceeeded in painting the body and all its panels and parts but between having very little experience painting with this airbrush, forgetting some steps I usually do when painting I find myself having runs, orange peeling and specks in my paint.  At least I can fix those things and know I will get it right with a bit more practice and less frustration from the airbrush.  I will post pics of the paint once the base colour is ready for the gloss coat.

I moved on with the chassis and exhaust system...

All the parts ready to go...

Everything going smoothly until I put on the rear passenger shock and realize I have two rear driver shocks....thanks AMT!!

It was an easy fix but a nuisance when things were starting to go right.

Chassis completed...

with the engine on...

If not for my airbrush problems this would have been a fairly smooth build and quite enjoyable I'm sure and hopefully from here on I can do more building and less whinning. Thanks for following along.

It's looking good Denis.

Thanks for the support guys and I apologize for the delay between updates.

Good news! I have the body painted to satisfaction and the inside box panels, let's just hope the outside ones will cooperate more readily.

More to come and thanks for checking it out!

Denis: You are making me like this open top pickup and that is saying something. Also, the bed floor looks great.
