PostSubject: 1/144 Little Aircraft Buildoff    Fri 14 Nov 2014, 12:04 am

It looks like I am first to land so I'll kick off the finished models thread with my  Revell Junkers Ju 52/3m in Russian front winter camo.

It is a pretty decent little kit with no reall issues. It was a pleasant surprise to find the kit provided skis as well as wheels, which of course prompted the winter camo.

I made a simple base from sheet styrene, coated in thick PVA glue and then a shed load of this...........

................. dumped on top, just like flocking in a car. I'm impressed with it as it's a lot tougher than using baking soda.

There was supposed to be an antenae mast in the kit but it was missing or the carpet monster got it, so I had to make one. The radio wire is EZ line.

And for scale, a shot with the standard international measuring device.

Nice one Al. Reminds me of the getaway plane used in the film 'Where Eagles Dare'. Now let's see....ummm.....that microscopic canopy....turned out OK!

So well done. Maybe there ARE no bad models, just untalented builders! You showed even the simplest kits can yield great results. The base idea is simply genius! Take a bow.

Thanks guys.

Landing No2.

I did this one in winter camo for two reasons. 1st I didn't want to do the same scheme as Colin did his in and 2nd it was a lot easier!!! LOL

I added the radio wire and covered the canopy and gunners position in a tarp.

They ARE small. Maybe not "braille scale," but hard to make look realistic. Excellent work chaps!

Hi Al,

Both are stunning Sir, especially for the size, have you made two display bases or is it the same one used for both...

Andy...

Thanks guys.

Harron.... 1:72 in normally referred to as brail scale, which mkes this twice as small. 1/8th if you talk about 'bulk'. LOL

Two bases Andy. There is quite a difference in size:

As to thread vs. wire or filament fish line, each has its points. Tho I haven't tried it, polyester thread and polyester wrapped around cotton thread may be the best compromises. It's hard to get wire or fish line to look taut. Great work so far. Am waiting for the biggies yet to come. The bomber and Catalina will be cool too!
