It does look a bit brighter Paul, and if you're happy with it then that's all that matters.
I agree with Al that you're too hard on yourself, the first version would have done for some mere mortals. :)

I just caught up on this one. I think the weathering is spot on! Looks very authentic. Will you be adding an more layers of dirt, sand. etc?

thats the plan

next course of events will be....
let it dry for a few days then a coat of matt varnish
dust wash to get in the nook and crannies
then i might play about with some lumpy mud...dont know yet, depends on how the dust comes out

and finished.............
wanted to make it a bit muddy to reflect the conditions on the Western Front but didnt want to make it over the top muddy, which i dont think i would have been able to replicate anyway, beyond my skills. tried in the past and failed so didnt want to mess this up trying again
i used MiG pigments to create a mud slurry, then one of those Tamiya mud sticks to add just a bit of lumpy stuff
